Chris Young Crytsal Ball

John Sickel's over at Minor League Ball did one of his "crystal balls" for Chris Young yesterday.

He has last season being his career year.  Most of the readers seem to think he was too pessimistic.

Thoughts?

Looks about right the next 3-4 years
after that all these predictions get pretty dicey. But he is a decent starter and does pitch in a pitcher's park in the NL, that alone will help him be better than major-league average.

Yep
Young's peripherals regressed last year, but his ERA was a lot better...

I think he's a solid #3/#4 starter for the next several years, but not a top-of-the-rotation guy.

It'd be good,
if we hung onto our solid #3 starters, rather than dumping them and getting the likes of Jamey Wright in our rotation.

2008
would actually be the career year.

Yep, that (2008) may be a reach, but
overall, he will probably be in those ranges.

Wow
I must be the only one who still thinks Young could be a well above average pitcher, especially in the NL and a pitchers park.  While I don't think he'll be a staff ace, I definitely think he could be a solid number two for the Padres and most teams in this league including the Rangers.

I could of course be way off, I guess we'll know in 5 years or so.

His numbers last year
were greatly helped by outstanding outfield defense.  They won't be quite as good out there this year, so it will be interesting to see how that affects Young's results.

oof.
You know BGL, you really aren't making us feel any better about this.
The good times are killing me.

BA against
to play devil's advocate, that BA against was helped by their above average defense.  Young is an extreme fly ball pitcher.  If that defense slips a little, as I expect, some of those flies are going to drop for hits and raise that BAA.  I still think Young is going to be quite good this year, but his ERA might rise a bit with his BAA.

a lot of people here
like to point to Batting Average against Balls in Play which is a good indicator of how much your defense helps you out (or possibly how lucky you are sometimes that balls get hit right at defenders).  Chris Young's was a little low.

I was pretty excited about C.Young...
and I never understood the trade.

I believe JD said during Newberg night last year that he was suprised by how well Chris was pitching.
