MLBTradeRumors.com looking for poster
Over at http://www.MLBTradeRumors.com they're looking for a blogger to represent the Rangers. It probably pays little if anything at all...just someone to give up-to-the-minute updates on the team.
If you've ever read the site, the Rangers' opinions are never very highly regarded ("Sign more pitchers." "Why are the Rangers thinking of dealing relief pitcher?" "Why didn't they re-sign Carlos Lee?"). Someone from here probably could expand the public opinion.

A sample was requested.
Standup Sunday
March 4, Surprise, Arizona
Some of the "iffy" components for the 2007 Rangers were on display today. A supposedly improved pitching staff produced 9 innings of three-hit, 9 strikeout, shutout spring ball. Small sample, way too early to make decisions, but it enthralled the contingent of Ranger fans who traveled to Arizona to catch spring training workouts and games.
Big IF #2, the acquisition of Sammy Sosa on a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. This was viewed as a low risk, high publicity deal, and frankly not many in Rangerdom figure it will pan out for either the club or for Sosa. Sammy got off to a not so showy first day, but today went deep to give the Rangers their initial lead. His presence elevates two questions for Ranger management. First, if Sosa shines in the spring, does that drop Jason Botts from the DH/relief outfied picture? Botts has nothing left to prove in AAA, with very high SLG and OPS over the past two seasons ... and he's 26. Stay tuned.
The second Sosa-related question is Sammy himself. He's apparently healthy, and well conditioned. And he's 38. Questions about his possible use of PED's aside, who thinks he can hold up over a rigorous AL West season given the heat, the competitive pitching within the division, and the long haul that appearing in 120 of 162 games might bring. The Angels have a terrific rotation and good pen, the A's have some starter issues with health but can be lights out (Rich Harden and Dan Haren), and Sammy doesn't face those hurlers in the Spring.
Second year player Ian Kinsler appears to be flexed between the #2 and #9 spots in the order. Although less "iffy" than some other aspects of the 2007 season for the Rangers, that's enthusiastic manager Ron Washington's blueprint for using the anticipated power and pop Kinsler (20+ lbs. heavier while looking quite lean) is hoped to bring. Today's deep shot to dead center reinforces that Kinsler can put some power to work.
Just opinion, but I think it will be quite late in spring training before the Rangers 25 man roster (even their 40 man) will be solidified. Watch for Washington to arrange both the batting order and the defensive lineup to scatter power, OBP, and baserunning rather than the traditional OPS in a row or holding the best reserve defenders until late.

very good recap
just something to interesting - your opinions are well representative of this board but i wonder how in tune they are with rangerdom at large. in this article, its only really in reference to sammy - saying not much is expected of him. i wonder if the casual fan who has heard ringing endorsements from the manager and the hitting coach is expecting a lot from sosa.

Good question
Thinking more, I don't hear all that many people talk about the Rangers, period. And that's a problem.
Thanks though, for raising the point. I'm not even sure the mlbtraderumors crowd is as tuned in as this forum.
