Per Richard Durrett, the Rangers have purchased the contract of Jamey Wright, optioned Mike Wood to AAA, and designated Daniel Haigwood for assignment.
The Wood move is interesting, mainly because I didn't think he had any options left.
DFA'ing Haigwood comes as a surprise to me. He was disappointing after coming over from Philadelphia, but I'd have thought that the Rangers would slide John Rheinecker over to the 60 day d.l. before they'd make this move with Haigwood.
Particularly since Bruce Chen, one would assume, will be put on waivers in a couple of days, which would free up a 40 man roster spot.
Maybe the Rangers think that Haigwood will clear waivers. More likely, they presumably are going to try to deal Haigwood.
But this is a bad sign about the return the Rangers got for Fabio Castro last summer.
And if, as I suspect, Jamey Wright is gone in early May, it will have been a pretty poor job of roster management...
