At what point do you update your signature to include Danks?

by Brandon Wilson on Apr 20, 2007 8:31 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Chris Young rules; Eaton Drools
CY looks to pick up is 2nd win.

btw CY just singled

Young 1.0 IP I hit, no walks.. lowered his era to 4.02

We should have never got rid of Chris Young

yeah...

I need to get rid of that. It's getting rather old, no doubt

CY
Has a helluva run lead. He'll pick up his second win.

sig gone...

Thinking of a new one.

No not a Danks sig. However, I was thinking about it with Danks and Masset. But trading Young was prolly the biggest mistake compared to letting Danks go

by hurlerhurley on Apr 20, 2007 9:31 PM CDT   0 recs

Chris Young
so far 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO, He's lowered his ERA to 3.48

by hurlerhurley on Apr 20, 2007 10:13 PM CDT   0 recs

Young
he's also 1/3 with a walk and an rbi

by shroomer on Apr 20, 2007 10:20 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Young pitched
a damn good one.

Nice line... 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K's

I figure he's done considering the Pads pen

by hurlerhurley on Apr 20, 2007 10:27 PM CDT   0 recs

Well,
he sucked hard on Jackie Robinson day. He is a pro and pro's always bounce back. By the way guys, have ya'll ever heard of the cliche' "Spilt Milk" 'cause that is what CYoung, AGon, Hafner, Arod, etc. represent.

by gp on Apr 20, 2007 10:37 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Thankfully, I didn't watch this
start from McCarthy; however, I have watched a couple of Danks starts this year and a couple of McCarthy's. I honestly think that McCarthy has better stuff than Danks. He really has some nice breaking pitches. Danks seemed to struggle with the breaking stuff and also doesn't have an overpowering fastball. I like McCarthy's stuff better. Then again, Danks is very young and all young pitchers struggle when they first break in. A 5.06 ERA at his age is tremendously good, especially when the pitcher isn't ready to pitch in the big leagues. The fact that Danks is such a tremendous competitor really makes me think that in a couple of years he is going to be pretty damned good. Of course, I believe that if McCarthy can add some strength he'll become much more consistent and with his nasty stuff he'll be a top of the rotation kind of guy. I'd be surprised if Danks turns out as good as McCarthy.

by gp on Apr 20, 2007 10:34 PM CDT   0 recs

McCarthy...
...from what I've seen his fastball isn't very good.  It's not real fast, it doesn't have any movement, and he doesn't locate it particularly well.

Tough to be a ML starter without a fastball that does at least 1 or 2 of those things.

by tricer on Apr 20, 2007 11:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I think that
his fastball velocity may waver a bit from game to game. In his first game, not that radar guns are super accurate, he sitting in the mid to upper 80's. In the game against TB he was consistently around 89, 90, 91 and he was locating it well. I didn't get to watch his last 2 starts so I don't know about them.

I think his inconsistency might be attributed to youth, and because he is so young his strength and stamina aren't fully developed. Of course, just getting the ball down in the zone will probably solve most if not all of his problems.

by gp on Apr 20, 2007 11:15 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

hey I'm
a believer that McCarthy is better than Danks. I damn sure have been holding on to this. Time will tell. I haven't gave up on this. Hell, Danks was my fav. Rangers pitching prospect next to Hurley and Volquez.. not to mention Thomas Diamond who I loved. I hated we got rid of Danks. But I seem to think I need to have faith in McCarthy. I want McCarthy to do better. It's all about the team and the Rangers. Hell, it's damn frustrating being a Rangers Fan

fanning the flames
With 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd, Danks induced a high pop-up behind short from Magglio Ordonez. Juan Uribe raced under it, waved his arms as if to call off all other fielders, then at the last second he ran away from the ball as fast as he could. The runners were moving since there were 2 outs, leaving runners at 2nd and 3rd, and a tie game. Danks gave up a single through the hole to the next batter, and was given the hook by Ozzie.

Judging by the way all three players reacted, I'd have to say that Uribe probably mistook some crowd noise -- it was a Standing Room Only crowd at Comerica Friday -- for one of his outfielders calling for the ball. The reactions of Erstad and Mackowiak as the ball landed between all three defenders made it pretty clear that neither had called off Uribe.

That lone play is the difference between Danks current ERA of 5.06 and his theoretical ERA of 3.31 if Uribe doesn't hear any ghostly footsteps.

You
can't factor out all the bad plays by the defense and keep all the good plays. Everything evens out. One of the games I watched him pitch he got some really nice defensive help. Danks has a 5.06 ERA and it is deserved just like McCarthy deserves his ERA though the defense behind him is atrocious.

by gp on Apr 20, 2007 11:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Right
Or you could provide a quote from a source that isn't just written by a Chisox homer. Oh, and maybe provide a link next time also, otherwise we might confuse that brilliant deduction as your own.(I'm assuming you didn't just come over here to put your own analysis in block quotes, though
I could be wrong)

by jcir454 on Apr 21, 2007 12:47 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Uhhhh...
that's his own analysis. He runs SouthSideSox.

This is silliest--and probably the most aggressively dumb--thing that I've read on any of the SB baseball blogs.

Wait, scratch that: this is the second silliest thing I've ever read on an SB blog. The title of dumbest has always, and will always, belong to the Rev. I once responded to a post over at Halos Heaven (I know, what was I thinking?). I tore the Rev up pretty well for his inane arguments, and that's when he (the REV!) went off on this huge rant about how I had posted at 4 AM, and how that invalidated everything I'd said. There were a few personal insults thrown about, some things said about my mother, but when the dust settled, the Rev was walking away with his tail between his legs. What the Rev didn't realize was that I wasn't even on the same continent as he was when I posted my response and the blog logged the time. I wasn't even in the same hemisphere. His house of cards fell down harder than a ton of bricks, and he showed he has the intelligence of a bag of hammers. And no, I never got an apology.

So no, this comment is not the dumbest, but it's close. That title, at least for the things that I've read, shall always belong to the Rev. He's like the "Once and Future King" of dumb and self contradictory things either said or written, non George W. Bush division. Actually, I'm not sure W can write.

Although, LSB apparently has its own contender in Sharky. Sharky vs. the Rev. I'd pay to see that.

by Stealfirstbase on Apr 21, 2007 1:17 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Okay
Thanks, I'd like to point out that your response was one of the most pointless responses I've read on any SB blog, so I guess we have something in common. Of course, it's nice he quotes from his own blog (I already knew he wrote a blog at SB Nation, it's clearly linked in his signature), but I fail to see how that counts as unbiased analysis (hence the Chisox homer reference).

Also, I think it's nice to provide a link when
one chooses to quote from an outside source (Or when it is your own opinion, such as in this case, there really is no point in providing quotes at all). So, what was the point of your response again?

by jcir454 on Apr 21, 2007 10:36 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

cultural illiterate.
That quote is from the single greatest film in the history of modern cinema. I pity you.

by trza on Apr 21, 2007 11:54 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That's ridiculous
Of course it matters going forward, even if it doesn't show up in the final results, because it tells us that he's pitching even better than we thought he was.

by a bebop a rebop on Apr 20, 2007 11:37 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Cherry picking stats
is what you are advocating then. The Sox has played tremendously good defense behind him and they saved him over and over. One bad play by the defense doesn't indicate anything. The games I watched Danks didn't have very sharp breaking stuff and his fastball was definitely not overpowering. The kid has a lot of guile though. He probably is going to finish with an ERA around 5, if things break right and is going to be under .500. Taking everything in context though that will be a tremendous accomplishment, absolutely tremendous.

are possibly the funniest scenes ever committed to film.

Did you mean what you said, though, or were you just making a random film reference?

Basically I jump at any opportunity to draw on the wisdom of that film. Also, I wanted to antagonize the interloper from Chicago.

Actually it has been 4 starts...
...it just doesn't seem like it, cause it has only been 15 innings in those 4 starts.

by tricer on Apr 20, 2007 11:56 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I don't know if we are all jumping to conclusions.
I do know that both Dickey and Koronka were very successful for a few starts and then when the league caught up to them they were torched and hard. That may still happen to Danks. With McCarthy we are hoping the opposite happens. Probably, the most important is that he can start locating his pitches better. I believe he has filthy stuff and can be very successful.

All I know
Is that JD may not be that right guy for the job.

CY, Agon & Sledge for Eaton (Shit) & Aki (Hopefully we can him turn into a good prospect or two) & a crappy C.

Sori for Shit

Hurt or injured players, if you are going to make these kind of gambles do it with Hick's money not your ammunition.

MY contract. I think that MY is a very good player but not a great player and great players are who you put that kind of contract behind.

JD has led us to a place where well we can just hope.

I hope that Mac is going to turn into a 1 and I hope that Wilks turns into a stud and Gange arm does not fall off and well I just hope that Sammy can keep it up. Maybe a few of these can turn into prospects at the deadline and JD can steer us toward the light. Probably not, as usaual we will be close and we will just sit there and make a move or two towards keeping fans in the seats.

We should have blown this up and well you no the rest, Hafner...

Stuff
What is it with the rangers and pitchers who have "stuff"? "stuff" means jack when you can't get the ball where it needs to be! Going with pitchers who have "filthy stuff" or whatever you want to call it, gets the rangers in a spot where they have guys like Jamey Wright pitching and trading for guys like Adam Eaton.

I'm not ready to write off McCarthy just yet, but it isn't too good so far.

"Pimps be damned, it's harder out here for a Rangers fan!" "If you don't throw strikes first, you're last."
