Mavs-Warriors Game 1 Thread

Just thought I'd put one up, even though the game doesn't start until 8 pm tonight. I'll be missing the first hour to watch the Sopranos, but this should be a great series.

Nellie can give the Mavs trouble, but I think our boys win in six. After that, it's Houston or Utah, then probably either the Spurs or Suns. Not an easy road, though home court throughout will help.

Go Mavs!

I am going to...
...go to game 4...

Just booked my flight.

Now I just have to figure out getting tickets to the game.

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 22, 2007 3:08 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

ought to be easier than getting them for a game
in Dallas.  I wouldn't be surprised if you were able to get tickets + airfare for cheaper than tickets in Dallas

prices

Nice!
We should have a Bay Area LSB community meetup.

Seriously.

We can go to a Giants or A's game.

blowout
i'm feeling a mavs blowout tonight. avery is going to have the team pumped and angry over the upset talk. the warriors might be a little over their heads right now. it would be huge if we could hammer them tonight. their ownage of us in the regualr season would be quickly forgotten.

GO WARRIORS
Living here in the Bay Area, we are beyond pumped about our Warriors.

People here really believe Dallas is beatable.  I do too.  Golden State is playing amazing basketball right now.

And don't think that getting tickets is going to be so easy JTTS.  The Warriors have HARDCORE fans, and they've been packing the house the last 4 weeks.  Go to forums.warriorsworld.net and see how fanatical people are there.

GO WARRIORS!

Sure, the Mavs are beatable
...but it would be a miracle.  They were one of the better teams in NBA history this regular season, and were a game away from a championship last year.

You'll need more than luck.  Divine intervention or something would be in order.

About the only thing going in their favor is that Nelson is so familiar with Dallas.  But it ain't going to be enough.

Still...
...there seem to be a lot of people out there who think that the Mavs are going down in the first two rounds...

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 22, 2007 9:02 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well
We'll see about that.  I really doubt it.  Given, I haven't watched very much basketball at all this season, but from what I have seen the Mavericks look very, very strong in just about every aspect of the game.

I am at the opposite end
I have watched alot of mavs games, and personally I dont think we are that strong.

by TexGoesYard on Apr 22, 2007 9:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

so
So it will require divine intervention for the W's to beat the Mavs in this series.

And, oh, by the way, you haven't watched much basketball this year?

Take my word for it -- the Warriors are not your typical 8 seed.  Or watch the game, cause they're outplaying Dallas right now.

by alon91 on Apr 22, 2007 9:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's not half time yet
I've been watching basketball since the Lakers faced the Mavs in the Western Conference Finals.  I know a good basketball team when I see it, and I saw enough of the Mavs to know they're deep, well coached, tight on defense, and efficient on offense.

And I think their record suggests they may be a little stronger than your normal #1 seed.  Look at their record against the only conference that matters prior to clinching.

But, you're right, I haven't seen them a whole lot (maybe eight or nine games) and I could be wrong.

Like me
David Stern wants to destroy Mark Cuban.

Bouncing the Mavs in the first round will finally convince Cuban there's no way he'll ever win a title, convincing him to sell and getting him out of the league for good.

Watching Bavetta do his thing in this game has already driven me away from the TV.

The NBA is f'ing ridiculous.

funny
cause on the Warriors board (which is going crazy by the way -- warriorsworld.net) we think GSW is getting worked by the officials.  Those offensive fouls that Harris got are a joke.

The Warriors are busting their ass
The Mavs are shooting 29% and the score is still tied.

Warriors shooting 33% and losing the battle on the boards.  Ellis is playing nervous and just generally terribly.

Game is tied, with Warriors leading for much of the half.

I'm optimistic.

I tend to agree
those offensive fouls were nothing more than flops. I thought the officiating favored the Mavs today but not by much. The warriors won today playing a mavs tempo and missing a ton of layups and open 3's. The Mavs are going to have to get their shit together and quick.

yeah, the NBA took that game from the Mavericks.

warriors
looked horrible in the first half honestly. mavs were just ice cold. i agree with the tnt crew too. you have the best record in the league, don't change your starting lineup for that gimmicky small ball crap. we can still play our transition game with diop and damp in there and we will completely clean glass.

it really is
embarassing sometimes. i love cuban, but your team is playing like a bunch of fucking nancys and getting beaten and all he can do is scream at the refs.

Classic.
Warriors whooped us up and down the court and he starts complaining to the refs.

The spurs
lost as well and are probably inferior to Denver.

by gp on Apr 22, 2007 11:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wtf?
The Spurs won two out of three against the Nugs this year.  The Spurs also lost game one the last time they played the Nugs in the Playoffs, but that worked out okay.  The Spurs just weren't hitting open shots.  They'll fall in the next game.

by Joe on Apr 23, 2007 8:42 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

3 words dude
Allen Iverson--playoffs

And he is actually playing with a team chalk full of good players. No Aaron McKies here. The spurs have their hands full and then some. They took an ass whipping on their home court just like the Mavs. Denver has gotten their act together just like GS. Neither are typical 6, 7 or 8 seed teems.

by gp on Apr 23, 2007 9:24 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

*yawn*
Iverson?  Playoffs?  Is that you best answer?  The guy made it to finals-once.  Gimme a break.

by Joe on Apr 23, 2007 12:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

How about this.....
your guards had no answer for Harris and JET last year and they aren't in AI's league.

Spurs will have their hands full.  Looks like the Mavs might as well.

by bdavison94 on Apr 23, 2007 12:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Still not worried
The Spurs changed their defense when they faced the Mavs.  I don't see the lowly Nugget forcing such a change.  Looking at last night's score, the Spurs succeeded in forcing the Nuggets into a Spurs-style game.  The Spurs just couldn't get open shots to fall.  It happens, but it rarely happens twice in a row.

by Joe on Apr 23, 2007 12:26 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The coaching staff is
to blame for this loss. The players were not sharp at all possibly due to all the time off the last couple of weeks. Also, not playing Dampier is a horrible decision.

Well, that was just about the most enjoyable sporting event I've been through in years.

I'm telling you -- these Warriors are for real.  I don't know that they'll win this series, but they can most definitely ball.

How the fuck
Are you a Texas Rangers fan and a Golden State Warriors fan?

by TexGoesYard on Apr 22, 2007 11:24 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I grew up in Lubbock, TX
and fell in love with the Rangers, although I never cared for any of the Texas NBA teams.  I moved to the Bay Area in 97 and became a Golden State fan, back before Latrell went crazy on PJ.

Kind of a weird combination, I know.  For the record, I'm also a Raiders fan.
