Alex Rodriguez told reporters this afternoon that he wants to stay in New York "no matter what." With ARod on his hot streak, it had appeared more likely that Tom Hicks and the Rangers would luck out and slip out from under all the money the still owe Rodriguez past this year.
But really, if ARod truly does want to stay, there is just too much reason for the Yankees to take the value and figure out a way to keep him. I mean, how often do you get to negotiate a new deal with a player where there are millions of free dollars sitting in the pot? It's too good of a bargain for them, and I'm convinced that Brian Cashman will relent and offer ARod the extension that keeps him in the Bronx and keeps Mr. Hicks on the hook.
