Arod Opt out.....

New article, at least to me, about the potential for Arod to opt out at the end of the season.

Also at the bottom of the article he discusses Arod's hot streak.  One thing that struck me is that he HAS to cool off.  When he goes through the inevitable cool period those same yankee fans will be hammering him.  Now I'm not one to buy into the media hype but that could get very interesting.  Anyhoo.....the article....

No Way He Opts Out
I posted the below in February and my opinion hasn't changed one bit.  NYY won't want to loose him and NYY is the best place for ARod.  I'd be surprised if he doesn't get an extension.

No Way He Opts Out
I can't see ARod leaving the NYY.

If we believe he's as image conscious as everyone says there's even more reason to stay a Yankee than not.

He won't want to look like he couldn't handle the pressure.  He'll want to stay to prove everyone wrong.

Eventually his image is his legacy and while the ballpark isn't the best suited for his numbers the talent he plays alongside certainly won't hurt his legacy.

Fair or not rings (or the lack thereof) are going to be a big part of his legacy as well, and there's no better team to play for if you want rings.

Money is supposedly a big reason to opt out.  The Yankees of course have more money to give ARod than anyone.  So they'd be the most likely suitor if he does opt out.  The NYY receive, what, $25M to pay ARod from Texas.  That's a lot of extra coin the Yankees can use to pay ARod that $160M contract by just extending his current deal instead of opting out.

For ARod's legacy and his wallet the NYY just make too much sense.

The only thing that would make any sense at all is if ARod wants to leave NY so badly that he'd risk severely tarnishing his baseball image to do it.  I think the effect of the NY pressure on ARod is way overblown, and I definitely don't think it's enough to override his legacy concerns especially when the money and rings are in NY anyway.

it will depend on if the Yankees will match
whatever number Boras throws out to start with.  If the Yankees don't match whatever Boras thinks he can get prior to him filing, he opts out and makes the Yankees compete on an equal field.

Its not out of the question that Boras could get another team to outbid what the Yankees will offer pre-free agency by 25 million.  Boras managed to get Zito an extra 25-30 million tacked onto his deal.  Scotty doesn't tend to blink in negotiations, so if the Yankees don't give them everything they want I don't think there will be any hesitation to get the money in free agency.

Valid
There's a lot of validity to your post, but like Boras getting his deal the NYY have shown a penchant for getting their man.

I suspect they both want it and it will get done.

No way Arod stays
he will get more money on the FA market and he's not going to go back to a place that their coach batted him, what 7th? 8th? He's going to the Mets.

Arod has an opt out clause?
Really?  This is the first I've heard of it.  Why is NO ONE talking about this?  Wow.
