Disgusting

The Mavs just don't want it bad enough.  Their supposed MVP doesn't WANT to take the big shot, passes as soon as he gets the ball, and misses the wide open shots.

I HATE THIS

At least you know EVERY year the Rangers are going to be one of the most pathetic clubs in baseball.  The Mavs got us all excited for this?

Pathetic

lol, nope
I am a die hard fan, I will stand behind this team forever.

I am just saying something will be done this offseason, and I am interested to see what it is.

Miles
Would you like to revise some of your comments from prior to game 1?

The Mavs have a very good team, but the Warriors are just a nightmare matchup for them, and us in the Bay Area have been talking about that for weeks.

Too bad for Adam that he couldn't see his team win, but I gotta say that I'm just beyond ecstatics watching the Warriors right now.

by alon91 on Apr 30, 2007 12:33 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I guess
your a Warriors fan, if they beat the Mavs... They will lose in the second round easily..

Back to the Mavs..  They have no heart, leader, and clutch or someone who will step up

Dirk has never been good in the playoffs...  Not saying we need to get rid of Dirk, but we need a guy who will come in and lead this team and thats willing to take big shots...

sigh
The Warriors are up 3-1 against the best team in the NBA and you say they'll lose in the second round "easily"?

I'm giving up trying to reason with you.

by alon91 on Apr 30, 2007 2:06 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Warriors
Yes they are making the Mavs look bad, but you do realize they barely made the playoffs and were only 2 games over .500 right?  Don't look for them to tear through the rest of the West

fwiw...
...Rockets fans are hoping the Mavs come back...

They'd rather see the Mavs in the 2nd round than the Warriors.

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 30, 2007 9:30 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Adam's right
Warriors are actually a scarier team than the Mavs right now.  You can't look at their season record, as they didn't start peaking until mid-March when Baron Davis came back from injury.  Over the last month-and-a-half, they're a top-five team.

by chrispi on Apr 30, 2007 10:29 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

But
weren't we a top five team all year?

We match up very well versus Houston.

Who knows how Golden St. would deal with Yao.

Rockets fans...
..might want to worry about beating Utah first...

2-2-1-1-1 format
Still gives the mavs a chance.

They hold serve at home, all they have to do is win one tough road game to be back in the drivers seat.

by Sharky on Apr 30, 2007 12:16 AM CDT   0 recs

True
but god they look apathetic out there.  There was a series toward the end of the game when Harris had it, Dirk had it, and maybe even Terry.  NONE of them wanted to take the shot so Stackhouse finally had to try and make something happen with 3 guys around him and ended up travelling.  It just looks like GS has more heart.

Could of knocked them out of the playoffs
Be sitting with a game for 4 against the clippers tonight getting ready for round 2.

by TexGoesYard on Apr 30, 2007 12:29 AM CDT   0 recs

really?
couldn't beat them tonight when Dirk said they had to... how could they have beat them when GS needed it and it meant nothing to Dallas?

by Brandon Wilson on Apr 30, 2007 12:34 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Also
Golden State ended up winning the 8th spot for two games, so that game against the Mavs ended up not mattering.

So a pretty stupid comment all the way around.

by jthig32 on Apr 30, 2007 12:37 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Dirk
actually tried posting up, but our guards couldn't/wouldn't get him the ball.
buffering....

by SteveP on Apr 30, 2007 12:37 AM CDT   0 recs

Dirk
This is sickening.

It seemed like Dirk just didn't want the ball much. If that's our MVP, then we're toast. And without him, we basically become the Stack and Terry show. Which is decent, but not a championship-worthy combo.

I now agree with the LSB blogger who wrote that Dallas was a vulnerable team because they won a lot of close games, and,  they rarely destroyed teams. Good call, fella.

I don't follow hoops that closely anymore, but I thought the Finals were a lock.

by 3Bagger on Apr 30, 2007 1:07 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The Western Conference Finals
maybe. But never would I have considered us a "locL' to get by Phoenix/SAS in the Westerns.

But, yah. This collapse is historic.

Bad Matchup
It's just a bad matchup for the Mavs.  When GS plays an entire team between 6'3" and 6'9", you need to punish them with size in the lane.

Sadly, the Mavs are a jump shooting team.  Diop and Damp aren't post up scorers, and Dirk, even though he's 7'0" can't post on the blocks.  The Mav's cant get open jumpshots because GS's guards are too quick and too long.  It's really just the worst possible scenario.

My hope before the series started was that the Mavs could limit GS's fast break points and, most importantly, get a bunch of offensive rebounds until Nellie was forced to put size on the floor.

Neither of things has happened.

by BAC on Apr 30, 2007 12:39 AM CDT   0 recs

Well
The Mavs are a jump shooting team because they are settling. This series has shown the team that takes it inside agressively will win. When the Mavs decide to do that they have a chance.

If they do that and make GS respect their inside ability, then the outside will open up.

Rebounds are critical, but even more important is turnovers. GS punished the Mavs for every turnover tonight.

by Brandon Wilson on Apr 30, 2007 12:49 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

x
Bingo.

The Warriors has a team that simply matches up really well against Dallas.

The Warriors has had a ton of problems with San Antonio and Denver because they score inside and dominate GS on the offensive glass.

People in the Bay Area were real happy when the playoff path ended up being Dallas -> Utah/Houston -> hopefully Phoenix.  None of those teams are unbeatable the way Golden State is playing right now.

by alon91 on Apr 30, 2007 2:12 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Im disappointed
I liked the Rockets matchup against the soft Euro and gang of the Mavericks rather than Nelson's Golden State.

and that matters how?
the rockets will matchup quite well with their televisions next round.

Under the new NBA
playoff seeding, wouldn't the Rockets play the Spurs next round?

by FirebatM3 on Apr 30, 2007 11:38 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

nope
They don't re-seed.

by Adam J. Morris on Apr 30, 2007 11:39 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

So for the second time
in two years, we might see the best western conference matchup in the 2nd round?

Rockets are awful
Just thought I'd add that.

Remember when nobody cared about Tracy McGrady? I sure do!

by Sharky on Apr 30, 2007 4:40 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Where do you get that from?
When did no one care about him? In Orlando? When he was making All-NBA first team and making more commercials than pretty much anyone other than a pre-rape Kobe Bryant?

You are NOT a real person. There's just no way.

That's pretty much how I remember it.
As someone who had no interest in basketball at the time (still don't, really), McGrady was one of the five or so names I knew.

You see, this is why I love the Rangers
They never get too close to anything important.  They won't have a botched snap in a playoff game or a complete dismantling by a #8 seed.  I will never get that punched in the stomach feeling with the Rangers because the stakes or expectations never seem to get that high.

by rbarton on Apr 30, 2007 8:46 AM CDT   0 recs

Seriously, you are correct
I realized this during the college football season when my admittedly unrealistic expectations fell short once again.  With the Rangers, I don't expect much, so it is easy to get excited about them.

"Hey, at least the Rangers might break .500 this year!"

by talkingmike on Apr 30, 2007 9:57 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Apparently
you don't remember 1996. We had good hitting and better than expected starting pitching, and we had a red hot Juan Gonzalez on a ridiculous tear (5 hrs in 4 games, with at least one shot in each game)... and then our bullpen happened.

We lost 3 games in a row, by a total of 4 runs.

If we had a decent closer we would've won the World Series that year, imo.

That was certainly a punch in the stomach to me.

more like a......
punch in the nuts to me.  I will never forgive Mike Henneman, Stanton, and Russell.  NEVER!

by bdavison94 on Apr 30, 2007 5:34 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Word
A full on punch to the junk. And not one of those glancing nut punches that catches mostly wiener, either. Full on nut-crunching.

I was at both the home games. We should've won them both. We were the better team overall.

Juan Gonzalez earned a permanent spot in my heart that series, though. He was a freaking monster.

Who cares
It's the NBA, why does anyone care?

by pblack on Apr 30, 2007 10:06 AM CDT   0 recs

Because its the mavs
It's our team, and you want all your teams to win the championship or die trying.

Right now it looks like we are not doing either one.
