bandwagon red sox fans

they have reached pretty crazy proportions. worse than the yankees at any point i can remember. there were probably more red sox fans through the gates in arlington than rangers fans this weekend. its funny because 10 years ago nobody cared about the red sox. they didn't even sell out feneway. you would go to a game in texas and you would see as many fans as you see when the white sox or a's or any other marginally popular team popular team comes to town. its funny how espn and mlb basically created the red sox with this curse and rivalry with the yankees they started pushing a few years ago.

Actually ...
... Red Sox fans are amongst the most loyal in the country.  I attended a game at Fenway last Sunday.  They announced it as their 328th consecutive sellout or somesuch.  I went in the late 80's and again in the late 90's and the place was full both times.  And I can't recall the last Rangers/Boston game that the third base seats weren't filled with Red Sox fans.

Besides, why would anyone pay to see the Rangers right now?

agree and disagree....
The sox have always had solid attendance (at least since I've been watching baseball....starting in the early 80's).  Growing up though the only team I remember putting a significant amount of away fans in the seats was the yankees.  I haven't lived in Dallas in a decade though so there was plenty of time for the Sox fans to start showing up after I left.  Still in the 80's and early 90's I don't remember them anymore than any other team.

sox fans
i can say from going to games in arlington against the sox last year i dont believe they are all bandwagoners, sure some are...but just walk through the parkinglot and look at all the Massachusetts plates on cars those fans travel. the metroplex is also full of transpants, though i'm sure more came out of the woodwork after the world series win.

I expect the series vs the cubs to be predominately cubs fans as well

surprising
that you see a lot of mass plates in parking lots. hard to believe there would be a signficant amount of people (or anybody for that matter) that would drive 2,000 miles to dallas to watch their team play. i agree that red sox fans are very loyal in boston and definently some throughout the country that have always followed them, but there is still a HUGE bandwagon contingent that started when espn and fox started pushing this yankees vs red sox rivalry and the curse. as far as transplants are concerned i don't think a whole lot of people leave the new england area. most transplants from the north came from the ohio/michigan area back in the 70's. thats why you see a lot of cleveland and detroit fans.

well
granted, when i saw the sox here last year it was opening day, so a lot of people likely traveled down. i won't deny there are bandwagoners but a large majority of the fans there seem to be genuine redsox fans... unlike say when the yankees come to town.
