Teix is worthless

They just played a postgame quote on the Ticket Ticker of Teix saying, "I am felling better, you know it always takes me a while to get going, but I need to start playing better if this team is going to turn the corner."

Wow. Mensa level statement. He admits and believes that he is a slow starter and will always be a slow starter.  Way to give us some hope Teix.

Tex
8 for 26 (.307) and 3 HR in his last seven games. I'd say he's picking it up.

That's
right.  He is picking it up now.  But the point is that he is the reason for his own slow starts.  That is how he defines himself.

As bad as a slow start is
I'd rather have a slow starter than a slow finisher.  Not that it doesn't bug the hell out of me, but I'm desperately searching for some silver lining to this huge dark cloud hanging over the entire DFW.
If you don't have fun it's your own damn fault.

Everybody slumps
at one time or another.  The funny thing is that last year's "slow start" by Teix would place him amongst the team leaders this year.

I'm much more concerned about Mike Young who still looks completely lost than Teix who appears to be coming out of his funk.

Young
I'm starting to get worried that the beaning in ST did something to him.  Maybe he's just having the slump of his life, but at what point do you start running tests?

by t ball on May 4, 2007 10:26 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

concern about Young
And he's also the one the Rangers are tied to for the forseeable future.

What a way to kick off your tenure as the Face of the Franchise! Nothing like historical bad level of play from your stud SS and marquee player to sink your ship right out of port.

Everybody slumps
With apologies to R.E.M.:

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you're sure you've had enough of this team, well hang on
Don't let yourself go, 'cause everybody cries and everybody slumps sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you've had too much of this team, well hang on

'Cause everybody slumps. Take comfort in your friends
Everybody slumps. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no. Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think you've had too much of this team to hang on

Well, everybody slumps sometimes,
Everybody cries. And everybody slumps sometimes
And everybody slumps sometimes. So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody slumps. You are not alone

too little too late
the Rangers would need to play better baseball than almost any point this decade to win the division.  I don't see it happening.  They might finish at .500, but winning the division is an incredible long shot right now.

by t ball on May 4, 2007 10:23 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Normally I would agree
but if you look at this division it may only take about 85 wins and you know our favorite saying, "all you have to do is get in."

Could we really be dissapointed with a first round playoff loss.

If you don't have fun it's your own damn fault.

85 wins
might or might not get it done.  They would need to play at a .560+ clip to get there from this point, I'm having doubts about their ability to do that.

Trade him now
everday we keep him is a burden on this organization. he is not going to resign here and we need to maximize his plummeting value. Did we learn nothing from Alfonso Soriano????  I wonder if there is some truth to what they were saying about TEx on the ticket yesterday , about how he is thought of around the league, him being soft and feeling entitled because he never really had to pay dues in the minors. i really dont care we should have traded him a year ago

to trade him now
is the most foolish thing we ever could do.

his value is as low as it has EVER been right now!

This is true.....
but remember.....when Teix starts heating up, and he will, that WILL be the time to trade him....and no one will want to.

A tough decision is coming....

an idea:
if we get something like:

SP prospect (id MUCH rather have kershaw over elbert - so much its not even close), loney, broxton for something like teixeria, one of our bullpen guys (anyone but aki/frankie franscisco) im all for it.

id be estatic if we did something like:

kershaw, loney, broxton(if we give aki) or meloan (if we dont) for teixeria, bullpen guy (aki?), prospect (not hurley, JMJ, poveda, etc)

FWIW
kershaw has 35k/15bb in 25 IP with a BAA of .184 (ERA: 1.08) (low-a) (6'3 210)
elbert has a 24k/10bb in 14 IP with a BAA of .128 (ERA: 3.86) (AA - missed his last start w/ "shoulder stiffness") (6'2'' 190)
meloan has 19k/2bb in 19 IP with a BAA of .191 (ERA: 2.03) (6'3'' 225)

compare to hurley:
26k/7bb in 36 IP -- BAA of .221 -- ERA of 1.75 in AA (6'4'' 195)

Soft?
how does paying your dues in the minors improve your "hardness" - because you travel on buses?

he played in the minors and proved he was better than the guys he was playing with - so he got promoted - why keep someone in the minors who is ready to play just to make him tough.

The Hardline don't know squat about what the rest of the major league thinks about Tex - while we fans may overvalue Tex - I seriously doubt if he was offered in a fair trade that a Gm would say know because they think he is soft.

by simplesimon on May 4, 2007 11:47 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

If he has
trade value then they should trade him now.  What do you define as a fair trade?  Teix for Melky Cabrera?
Hell, remeber when the Devil Rays wanted Teix for Rocco and we all laughed.  I doubt they would even still do that deal.

by jshcmp on May 4, 2007 12:08 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

well
i wouldn't do that deal either.

if we trade a gold glove silver slugger 1b, we better get better than an average position player.

exactly
my point.  We perceive high value for Teix.  I don't think that is held around the rest of the league, especially right now.

by jshcmp on May 4, 2007 2:26 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I've never liked Tex
But I wouldn't trade him now, and at the moment he is the relatively low on our like of worries.

Nevertheless, it may be a good time for JD to start paying attention to which teams are going to be contending who may need a good bat at first (Arizona, Cleveland, the Yankees?), because as soon as the draft happens, that scouting department needs to be looking for some hidden jewels in the minor league systems of those teams...

by JBImaknee on May 4, 2007 12:24 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

tex softness
i was wondering if Tex is missing a feeling of accountability because of his feeling of great self worth. Again did we learn nothing from Soriano. His value dwindled every year. i think we need to nip this thing now, becasue due to his track record of having a slow start what do you think his value is going to be on July 31 in two years when he is sitting at .260 with 8 bombs and 35 RBI???? If we trade him now he is not just a 2 month stop gap for some team, so we may be able to get more. If only eric hurley can hit.. wait he couldnt hit any worse, somebody give that guy a stick.

Scouting Department??
Didnt they move to milwauke??? sp?

Now that he admits it
he will have nothing to complain about when it becomes mandatory for him to spend the first month in AAA every season.
