Sammy's Return to Baseball Could Be Short Lived

(Per bizofbaseball.com)

Could Sammy Sosa's return to MLB be shorted lived?

The committee headed by former Senator George Mitchell investigating steroid use in MLB has requested medical records for Sammy Sosa and Rafeal Palmeiro, along with Jason Grimsley, David Segui and Fernando Tatis, from the Baltimore Orioles. Under the HIPAA law, the players must then authorize those records to be released to the Mitchell investigation. It is believed that the players will refuse such a request. As reported by the NY Times:

Other players under Mitchell's scrutiny have not been publicly identified, although people who have been briefed on the development said that the full list included players expected and unexpected, and that it excluded some players who might have been expected to be on the list of steroid suspects.

The Orioles, for instance, were not asked to release medical records to Miguel Tejada, Jay Gibbons and Brian Roberts, the official said. Those players had been implicated by news-media reports describing a statement by Grimsley and, in Tejada's case, by Palmeiro, who said Tejada had given him an injection that might have contained steroids. The official, who was granted anonymity because baseball officials have been ordered not to talk about the Mitchell investigation, said their exclusion showed a lack of evidence against those three players, who are all on Baltimore's active roster.

Investigators have looked deeply into the Orioles, among other organizations. Mitchell's staff has interviewed at least nine members of the Orioles' front office and training staff, and has searched at least six of their personal computers for evidence relating to performance-enhancing drugs, the official said.

Not worried about it
All this probe does is define the scope of the investigation. Sammy has no failed tests, people are just putting him in the "steroid gang" because of 1998 and Mark McGuire.

Problem is, even with suckness,
he's 2nd on the team in RBI......or maybe everyone elses suckness!

it's still early
I'm just saying that I don't think this investigation is really going anywhere soon.

If all else fails
I just heard that Rickey Henderson still wants to come back.  We could have two great comeback stories, that would surely bring fans back to the stadium, right?  Just imagine an outfield of Sammy, Kenny, and Rickey.
If you don't have fun it's your own damn fault.

Rickey would actually improve this team
and our lineup is better every day that Sosa is in it than when he isn't.

They've given both Cruz and Diaz ample opportunity, and neither has done anything with it.  So until they do, I want to see Sosa / Lofton / Wilkerson in the lineup everyday

Yep, I was excited about Cruz, but
I agree, he hasn't done much with his opportunity & I'm tiring of the batting practice stories.

Cruz has been
a steamer so far in his time.

I agree that Cruz...
has gotten ample time and needs time to figure out how to even hit a fastball now but Diaz has not been given enough time yet and not so sure it was smart to put him cleanup from day 1. I want to see more of what Diaz has to offer. I would love an outfield of Cruz and Diaz for the future. They just look like what corner outfielders should look like. Tall, strong guys with rockets for arms.

I was at the Ranger/Yankee game yesterday at Yankee Stadium and that throw by Cruz to save a run at the plate was absolutely amazing. I'm 100% sure no one else on the team could have gotten the runner out.

I still want to see Cruz out there getting AB's
if for the reason that who else on this team has his potential.  I'd rather go through a half a season or even a full season of him sucking if it means he develops into a good defensive COF w/ power.  Who is going to get AB's in his place?  Cat or Wilk or Kata.

Give this kid some more time.  I do agree though I'm tired of hearing announcers talk about batting practice.

I just don't necessarily agree...
that playing him everyday is better for him and the team. Let him either figure it out in a less pressure situation in AAA or have him work on his approach playing every other day or so and try to fix his mechanics with Rudy. I don't believe that playing everyday is the way to break in a young struggling player. It works for veterans because they have a track record of success and know it will come eventually but guys like Cruz dont have that track record to rely on and doubt enters their mind. He's probably trying too hard and his mechanics have gone out of wack.

I would normally agree w/ sending him down
but he's about to be 27 a couple of months.  He's had his time in the minors, and it's time for him to get a real shot to see if he's big league material or another AAAA player.
If you don't have fun it's your own damn fault.

Excuse my ignorance
What is the stated goal of the Mitchell investigation?

Even if they are able to find loads of info that indicates that hundreds of guys took steroids a few years ago, they still can't suspend someone without a positive test result, right?

I don't see the point, everyone with a brain in their head realizes that a large percentage of players used PEDs.

Well
Our stellar leaders in Congress have solved all the 4-500 really important problems of our age.

They needed something to do.

On a similar note...
...MLB sure took some swift and decisive action when they found out that GMJ and JHJ were having HGH delivered to their homes, huh?

Seems to me that if a player says, "I didn't do it", and MLB has no positive test result - then the player is deemed innocent.

And to be honest, I don't have any problem with that policy.  It just seems that these "investigations" give the talking heads something to talk about, but that's about it.

You Forgot Jerry!
To paraphrase President Bush's famous invocation "you forgot Poland!", let us not forget that Jerry Hairston Jr. is also one of the former Orioles players that the Mitchell investigation would like records from...

is it just me
or have there been a ton of former Rangers implicated or thought of as PED guys.
