He's a FA. It doesn't make sense for the Rangers to trade for him, given the sorry state of their season. If they want him, sign him as a FA and just take the loss (maybe two) in draft picks.

The only reason this is relevant to the Rangers

now is that it confirms competition in the trade market for Teixeira. If guys like Dunn, Dye, and Glaus are available, it weakens the leverage for Teixeira. Those players are not as desirable as Teixeira in differing ways, but if a team can get one of them for less than it costs to get Teixeira, than leverage is lost.

The best thing that could happen to the Rangers in the next month is for Toronto and the ChiSox to get hot so they become buyers instead of sellers.

i want dunn a LOT

but i dont see a match - they will want guys like kiker, hurley, etc

id trade poveda + other prospects i just dont see how it would work

go after him (hard) in FA (when hes a FA)

that said, i think the reds trade him for SOMETHING (here is where im worried abt the braves/dodgers - do THEY prefer dunn to teix? how much difference would the cost be btwn the two?

Dunn vs. Tex

I'd think for an NL team the clear choice would be Tex. He's a plus defensive 1b, who could probably play a good LF if you could convince him to try it.

Dunn is a terrible, terrible fielder. Awful. Makes Jason Botts look like Devon White.

Plus you get a guaranteed two years out of Tex, whereas you only get one out of Dunn (the team option on Dunn for '08 gets voided if he's dealt)... so if you're looking for a two year window, you'd probably want Tex.

The one contending team I could see preferring Dunn to Tex would be the Angles. Their DH slot is WIDE open, they have the money to lock up Dunn with an extension right away, and they'd probably much prefer sending a batch of prospects to Cincy than they would to a division rival.

When was the last time a white slugger (not named Mark Teixeira, who of course ya'll are tripping over yourselves to get rid of) really dominated for a long time?

He's tall, therefore he has holes in his swing. He's slow, I'm betting.

He's just the type of player who just really has a very above average chance to suffer a big decline in his career.

Give me Gary Sheffield, Manny Ramirez, I hate those guys but at least they get it done year after year, cus they aint white. Dunn is Richie Sexson junior.

This guy is frickin pitiful. Those stats are full of holes and warning signs.

Unless cincy is a huge pitching park, that guy sucks. Especially at 10.5 m this year.

I remember when Ortiz signed for 14m per season a couple years ago, you guys said it was a crap signing. That's because you guys dont know shit about baseball, and you hate the Rangers. But the point being that guy isn't in Ortiz galaxy for a somewhat similar salary.

That guys stat line just screams shitty.

Ortiz>>Dunn.. but Dunn is younger, and from Tx. Thus perhaps easier to sign if traded for. Imagine if the rangers bit the bullet and traded for Dunn and resigned him, and also signed Hunter as has been widely rumored. That would give you a lineup of:
1 ss young
2 cf hunter
3 lf dunn
4 1b tex
5 3b blalock
6 2b kinsler
7 dh botts/ cat/ free agent
8 rf diaz/ cat/ cruz
9 c laird

I don't want the Rangers to sign anymore crazy chan ho contracts but if we keep waiting for them to sign perfect guys to perfect contracts or develop good to great players at all positions then this team will never ever ever ever be good.

I know that lineup could use a massage but my point is with that lineup and and surely some kind of progression in our pitching that team would be at least competitive. i would hope. the contracts would suck and botts may not be that good and tex would leave the next year and byrd/diaz/byrd/cat are all huge question marks but are we going to wait forever for this organization to figure something out? I don't know sorry for the rant.
