If you're JD, do you take a shot on him?

Hell yeah!
We lack young talent in the OF, we dont have anything to lose.

I'll raise
your hell yeah

to double hell yeah!

Yeah
Let's get a total tard in here.  That will be great.

All we have to lose is next year.

Great idea.

If you can get him for nothing
it's a no brainer

not a bad idea
the cowboys were no good until they were buddies with the police

WTF?
They were America's Team long before Jones bought the team so I think to say something like that is either absurd or you being sarcastic. Tom Landry did not tolerate off-field issues with his players.

how did
"hollywood" henderson get his nickname?

and who was his coach?

Maybe we can make a deal at the deadline and get Oil Can Boyd in here!

Please
they were known as the Cocaine Cowboys back in the 70s.

Dukes
If Tampa released/DFA'd him it was for a good reason.  I would be leery of bringing him in, especially if he comes with serious legal baggage.

i heard
he sent his girlfriend a text message that was a picture of a gun...he's a headcase for sure

by weslyenkid01 on Jun 22, 2007 3:22 PM CDT   0 recs

Headcase
At what point do you say to hell with talent? I don't want this guy anywhere near the Rangers clubhouse.

It was his wife
he basically threatened to kill her, in between randomly calling her "dog." "I'm coming for you, dog. I don't care if the kids are with you, dog." Basically like that, but with a lot of mfers, etc.

That said, I'd like the Rangers to try and get him. Seriously.

Well Mr. Burns had done it. The power plant had won it. With Roger Clemens clucking all the while.

by WyoRanger on Jun 22, 2007 4:08 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Hey
who hasn't had a fight with their wife? Does he have a history of being a bad teammate? And even if he does I  really don't care because this is the worst team in baseball.

by shallrelicme on Jun 22, 2007 4:16 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Are you serious?
Yes everybody fights with their wife/girlfriend.

Nobody texts a picture of a gun and shows up at her place of work to ATTEMPT it.

Word
There's a difference between having a heated argument with you wife and systematically terrorizing her to the point where she lives in contant fear for her life.

your lady a picture of your "piece"?

wow
you guys must be having a bad day at work...ha i hope you do know i was kidding around.

by weslyenkid01 on Jun 22, 2007 3:35 PM CDT   0 recs

hell yes i'd go after him
if they dfa'd him it wouldn't take much to get him, probably a fringe player at best. if he was flat out released, if i'm jd i'm on the phone with his agent now.

i mean, the rangers can't be picky really... a young guy with his skills is valuable, just keep him away from the local high schools

haha
what a creeper

by weslyenkid01 on Jun 22, 2007 4:08 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

i wouldnt
did anyone hear the clip of him on the radio trying to defend himself?

hes one of the very few players in the mlb i just dont want any part of.

not to mention he was hitting .190

although i do like that hes patient at the plate and he will probably be a pretty good player, i just dont think its worth it.  normally i agree with the im hiring them to play baseball not be my friend thing, and i would have no problem with people like milton bradley or other people with perceived problems.. but this guy.. no thanks

by DSheppard on Jun 22, 2007 4:06 PM CDT   0 recs

Despite
my double hell yeah above, I just read through some Dukes stuff online. Impressed as I was with his obvious youth and talent, I changed my mind in minutes. Whether he's progressing or not someday, he's made more than just a few foolish choices.

No more double hell yeah.

by 3Bagger on Jun 22, 2007 4:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Dukes
I know the Rangers supposedly were very interested in him last year, so it wouldn't surprise me if JD tried to bring him in, even with all those issues.

for those unaware of Dukes's transgressions

-Sent his ex-wife a picture of a gun with a threat to kill her.
-5 children with 4 different women, including a 17 year old most recently.
-arrested 5 times.
-got into a physical fight with a teammate in the dugout and locker room
-suspended for a verbal fight with manager in the minors
-suspended twice for arguments with umpires in the minors
-publicly complained that he was not in the majors last year
-now apparently released from a bad team (although they do have OF talent).  who knows, there may have been another problem to cause this.
  • all the personal problems that come with some of those things.
  • hes hitting .190
The guy is a great athlete and a very good talent, but as i said before, no thanks.

by DSheppard on Jun 22, 2007 4:29 PM CDT   0 recs

sounds like
a really immature 20 something kid who thinks the world owes him something because he's a badass athlete. I don't know if he'll ever mature or become the player he was thought to be but i would definitely take a chance on him. besides that isn't 17 legal age in Texas??? lol

by j d on Jun 22, 2007 6:06 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

well if it wasnt
well, given that hes not in jail..... id assume it wasnt illegal..

but there are hundreds, and have of course been thousands, of immature 20-23 year old baseball players, and not many of them have compiled a record like dukes.

i even forgot about the incident where he was banned from ever coming to the school where his ex wife works because he came up there without permission and caused trouble of somesort.  something like that anyway, read the article a while ago.

by DSheppard on Jun 22, 2007 6:10 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

17 is legal in fla
so long as you're under 24... which he is.

well
like i said, just keep him away from the local high schools and the rangers would be fine.

Dukes
Per my buddy in Tampa, Dukes was sent to AAA and placed on the 60-day inactive list.

hmm
that's probably the signal to teams to get in on the bidding.

when ur in last place...
whats the worst that can happen?  its not like he can destroy the chemistry of the clubhouse and turn the guys against every1 and make us lose a bunch of games.  and if he did, who cares our whole lineup is either ancient or garbage.

if u arent willing to take fliers on guys like bradley and dukes, you deserve to be a rangers fan.  go sign cat and give up a draft pick.  i hear he's a reall good clubhouse guy.

.500 or bust!

"what's the worse that can happen"
I don't know?  that he kills somebody in the metroplex.

But maybe he kills
Hurlerhurley or badradiorules or sharky.

Then is it really that bad?
