Yanks try hardest to stick it to Rangers

the Yanks have decided they might negotiate a contract extension with A-Rod during this season, as long as he doesnt opt out after the year.  This way they can just tack an extension on the existing contract and keep him and the Rangers 81 million.  F him F them.

Why wouldn't they?
It makes so much sense for them to do that. They have the best player in baseball signed to what amounts to a below market contract. Why not try to extend it?

NY would be stupid
not to explore this.  AROD is the best player in the game.

yup
this is naturally what the yankees would attempt to do.  our only hope is that arod opts out for a contract that offers him more money total.  Other than that, nothing the rangers can do about it.

so, isn't this right up there with hafner and agon trade.

Forget Johnny Bench, we got Gerry "the Jet" Laird

I may be way off base
but with Boras I could see him telling Cashman if you want AROD back you must pay market value ABOVE the $7m that Hicks has to pay.  Almost like there is no discount for the Yankees.  I don't think it's out of the question.

Yanks want to negotiate
we are forgetting that no where in this story does it say that A-rod wants to talk extensions, only the Yanks.  With the oscar winning performances he puts on do we really know how he feels or what he thinks??

Perhaps this is a way to call...
...A-Rod's bluff while figuring out if they should be Buyers or Sellers before the 31st?  As in: if he says he'll talk, they don't worry about making a move before the trade deadline.  If he blows them off, they can go into win now mode and try to bring in people like Teixeira to make every effort to catch the Red Sox THIS season while he's still a Yankee...

It's just a theory, but couldn't this be possible?
