OT: Cuban's Cubs ? How about Cuban's Rangers?

I saw a month ago that the Chicago Cubs Fans were circulating a petition to promote Mark Cuban as their new owner. Apparently, the players joined in. I neither heard nor read about this locally.

Apparently, he might just do it. I lifted this from the Cubs Blog...thought it might be interesting.

Controversial Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said Thursday that he has submitted his application to purchase the Cubs. He said he believed he sent it in last week, though he wasn't sure. Dates don't matter anyway. What matters is that he's officially serious about buying the valuable, championship-starved franchise on the North Side.

Would anybody prefer Cuban to direct his interest towards the RANGERS? At least we wouldn't have to hear about money and the budget every other week!

i'm sorry
... but why is this relevant, as a non-OT diary no less?

I think it's interesting
Lots of people who post and read here are Mavs fans, so like him or dislike him, Cuban is a prominent figure to them. And him buying the Cubs would be a pretty huge MLB story.

relevant
I think the owner of the Dallas Mavs making an effort to buy one of the premier franchises in MLB is a relevant post here.

Newbie Excuse
First time. Didn't notice the "OT" category. My bad!

I should have been more clear as to the Ranger-connection, (though I figured it would surface), namely that there might be a local petition to get Cuban to buy the Rangers.
Now that's a divisive topic!

Hit me in the eye...maybe I can see better.

sigh
Looks like I'm in the minority on this one, then. I read and post here, I'm a Mavs fan, I like Cuban, and Cuban is a prominent figure to me, but Cuban submitting an application to purchase an NL club is not news for me as a Rangers fan.

If Cuban were to actually own the team (I don't know who he has to outbid) and, say, sell the Mavericks -- then I might be interested.

Notice how you said "would be a pretty huge MLB story." Until anything concrete happens, we shouldn't clog up the diary lists with potential news stories that are better suited as scrolling headlines on ESPN, or else we end up with "Cuban's Penguins? Owner throws name into list of interested NHL suitors ..."

I'm on the Kam Loe Bandwagon, deal with it.

Wake-Up Call to Hicks
One effect that this might have is to stir up Tom Hicks. Betcha you hear a lot of talk about hoping that Cuban buys out Hicks, especially the desire for an owner that doesn't whine about money, but spends it instead!
Even if Cuban doesn't really want to buy the Cubs, the ripple-effect of the application locally can only be a good thing.

I'd love to see Cuban as a MLB owner
But it'll never happen.  Cuban scares too many owners, especially Reinsdoff and Selig through his blog.  Can you imagine his response to Samson's Ichiro comments?  Can you imagine his response when owners cry foul the minute he offers a large contract?

Pity, Cuban would make baseball a lot more interesting, and fun.
