Draft Picks
I was just checking signing bonuses in the supplemental round and only 7 of the 34 picks were unsigned.
Of those 7; Borbon, Ramirez and Hunter (who I was under the impression that we took that early because of his signability)
Just fishing to see if anyone knew where we were on Ramirez and Hunter (figuered Borbon would be a tough sign)
It looks like all three of these guys, Beavan, Nash (4th) and Gast (5th) won't make their debuts until 2008 if at all.
Last question. I know that if we don't sign Beavan, we get that pick back. How far down the draft does that go? 1st round? supplemental?

Last I heard ...
Nash is adamant about playing for Oregon State.
Gast sounds like he's hopeful to sign, but understands why the Rangers would want to wait until close to the deadline to see how his recovery is progressing. He thinks he'll be healthy enough to start throwing in extended ST next year.
I think the extra-draft-pick rule goes down to round 2 - so it looks like missing on Nash isn't as painful as it could have been.

Different Ideas

It depends
IMO, college is just as good a place to develop as a hitter as a the minors. Or at least they're comparable. And you get to actually go to college (which is fun) as opposed to spending three years riding buses from small town to small town making $15,000 a year. If I was a hitter I'd want at least $1,000,000 to turn pro out of high school.
As a pitcher the number would be much lower. College coaches don't give a crap about the development of a pitcher. They want wins, and that often means ridiculous innings are asked of a young pitcher with no regard for the kid's 5-10 year future. If you are a pitcher with Major league aspirations I think it would be prudent to turn pro out of high school provided you're offered enough money to see you through college if you happen to fail.

My Thinking as a Hitter
IMO, there is no right or wrong answer. Each situation is unique to the individual. I'm merely stating that if I would have had the God-given talent, I would have signed quickly and been on the first bus/plane to Whereeversville.

You also
The guy I feel sorry for is the 20th round high schooler who signs for a little and gets released after a couple of years and misses out on the Division I college experience.

Then Jamey said TR's reporting that Hunter is close. I'm delighted about that...I think the dude should work out well as a pro.
