I've been watching the Pirates since Zach Duke, a Texan, came into the league. It seems that they have a solid young rotation. What are the odds of getting Duke or anybody out of that staff to come to Arlington?

The Pirates and the Rangers have had a number of trade discussions of the past several years. The Pirates have coveted Teixeira and Hank Blalock, but have never been willing to part with a guy like Duke. They have been dangling Ian Snell instead, and the Rangers refuse to bite.

Huh? If T.R.'s correct and the Pirates have been offering Ian Snell, then someone needs to be fired for not immediately making that deal. Ian Snell is one of the best young pitchers in the NL. He has electric stuff, and he's done a ton better in the majors than Zach Duke, who's been horribly inconsistent the last two seasons.

But I seriously doubt that T.R.'s right on this one, as Snell's too good and young to be offered for Teix or Blalock at this point.

We ask for Zach Duke...

...and they offer Ian Snell (2.90 era, 1.17 whip, 7.3 k/9, 2.7 bb/9, 0.6 hr/9). We turn it down.

SD asks for Laird, and we offer CYoung. They accept.

God this team is frustrating.

thats what the rumor has been (not sure if jd ever confirmed it). i do know that speculation is buck and conner were telling jd that young couldnt hack it in the texas heat....oh well what's done is done

Yes JD

did confirm it last year at Newberg Night. He said that they asked for Laird but the organization felt like giving him up was too great for what they were offering. So they countered with Chris Young who at the time they didn't think was going to be as good as he has been. They thought Young was going to be a serviceable starter probably around a 3 or 4 guy, they just didn't think he was going to be a #2. Heck on this team he'd be the ace, but they thought Eaton was a fair swap.

Damn...man someone seriously needs to pull the monkey out of Wendy's ass.

What a miscalculation

hanging onto a catcher who looks like one of those interchangeable waiver wire guys for a guy who might be an all-star. Sadly, we seem to keep making these decisions as an organization, regardless of who the GM is.

yeah

that is one thing you have to hang on JD. Even if you think buck/connor were in his ear about Chris Young, it was most likely JD who shielded Laird.

Although, I'm starting to think that pitchers pitch better on other teams than they do with Texas, and it has nothing to do with the ballpark or the heat.

actually, the funny thing...

about Teix for Griff and Dunn is that it makes no sense for the Reds, either. Also, I'm not sure about Dunn's service time, but I don't think the rangers get much out of it unless we get 3 years from dunn. Regardless, that was submitted by a stupid fan who only knows the big names in the league and doesn't realize that you're better off receiving minor league prospects.

He does drive me nuts in interviews when talks about himself in the third person and speaks in the wrong tense. "Michael Young has...." not "Michael Young have..."
