Luis Mendoza

When it comes to the Frisco pitching staff, Armando Galarraga gets all the attention. I was checking what our farm teams did and noticed that Luis Mendoza is now 11-1. Not a great era in around 4.14, but if you look at their lines for the year, it's almost identical. I've never really heard of this guy, don't know his age or anything about him. Wondering if anybody else has noticed his success and might know how old he is and what kind of potential this guy might have and maybe he falls into a late rotation type guy or middle reliever...just wondering your thoughts

Not a huge prospect, but decent stuff
Works with a fastball, curveball, changeup, and slider.

Fastball ranges between 90-93, usually sits 91-92 though. He commands it pretty well and works low in the zone with it. His changeup and curveball are both very average, but serviceable usually. His slider is very bad (it seems to range between 83-85 MPH), but he started throwing it in mid-June, so it's still a work in progress.

He looks to be a middle reliever if he gets to the majors to me. Still, I do like him because he has a good fastball, throws strikes, and works down in the zone.

Brandon Boggs
I read your stuff on Scout, and it's very good, very informative.  What is your assessment of Brandon Boggs' major league potential?

My favorite prospect on the Frisco team
I think he'll be starting in center for the Rangers eventually. His range looks good, he has a good arm for center, he has good power, and he's a patient hitter. I think the only question is whether or not he'll keep the average up. But I think he'll do it. He's also much, much better from his natural right side than the left.

Mendoza
I've seen 2 of his starts at frisco. He doesn't overpower or finesse guys he just gets the job done. Nothing flashy it just seems to work.

strikes
all you have to do in Texas is throw strikes...consistently.  it helps of course to have a good defense behind you and of course to be left handed if you're more of a flyball pitcher instead of groundball, but all you really have to do is throw strikes.  If that's what Mendoza does, I'd say he's one of our top prospects
