I really wish
you hadn't titled it Lofton traded, when it is still just a rumor from a trade gossip site.

mlb trade rumors
i find it funny when people quote something the guy who runs that site writes as some kind of soure as if he has any inside info.

now obviously the articles he links to are worth looking at though.

i hope lofton gets traded just because we need the playing time to take looks at players, and id like to see him go to a contender too.  that was a good pickup by JD.

i dont know why we would want another catcher though.

Would make sense
JD loves catchers.

Ramirez
.303 with 12 HR & 62 RBI, a .418 OBP, and .923 OPS for high-A Kinston this year. Looks like a pretty nice offensive prospect.

Here's what BA had to say on him during their Indians chat this spring:

"Reports on Ramirez's skills behind the plate were brutal, and the Indians knew that when they made the deal. The bat is the selling point, but Ramirez lacks a true position. His ceiling could be a utility player similar to Olmedo Saenz."

"Then I met some friends for a beer, went to a BoDeans's concert, and son of a vondruke, if I didn't leave him at the concert hall."

yeah
he's listed as a DH

Ramirez
That's what he looks like to me as well. He's listed at 5'11", which probably makes him too small to play 1B, but perhaps he could be moved to the outfield?

Meh
a good hitting catcher who can't catch. Nice.

Are we...
trying to corner the market on catchers?

Catchers are
fairly tradeable commodities normally.

Also, I think JD realizes we really don't have anything at the ML level currently, and we may have to put together a Catcher by committee situation for the forseeable future.

Nah
Daniels likes Laird.

I'm a little surprised (and disappointed) you didn't whip out the Gerry Fraley quote, yet again, though.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 27, 2007 12:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Daniels likes Laird?
It's not clear with all his catcher related activity.

by DJCahill on Jul 27, 2007 12:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Yea
Einar Diaz was traded for Travis Hafner and Chris Young almost straight up.

by badradiorules on Jul 27, 2007 12:41 PM CDT up reply actions

pitcher, chris young?
he was never traded to or from the indians.

he was traded for einar diaz from the montreal expos.

by Lonerangers on Jul 27, 2007 12:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, but he was involved in 2 trades
one for Young, one for Hafner.

He is showing that even crappy catchers have trade value for some reason that I am unable to comprehend, but I do recognize.

Some days
I feel like if we had traded Laird instead of Young to SD that Laird would now be having a Russel Martin type year out there.

It looks like
Olmeado Seanz is almost right on.  He may be worse than Marrero behind the plate.  Maybe a Todd Zeile type upside.

by badradiorules on Jul 27, 2007 12:43 PM CDT up reply actions

the deal
appears to be in its final stages, as a press conference has been announced for 4 pm this afternoon....

by Lonerangers on Jul 27, 2007 12:05 PM CDT reply actions
