Donnie Sadler - DOH!

Per ROTOWORLD:

Donnie Sadler has been suspended 50 games for violating minor league baseball's drug policy.

Sadler was playing for Triple-A Tucson before drawing the suspension. He's 0-for-1 this season with Arizona and is a career .202 major league hitter in 418 games. He'll now miss virtually the rest of the season.

GEEZE - this guy's been playing in the bigs since '98 and has owned an average of .230 or more only ONCE!  Ouch.  I guess when you blow this bad - you'll try anything!  I wonder what drug they found in him...

Wow

And how much I hated Ryan Christenson

Anyone else think its funny....
that very few big-league guys ever get suspended, and if so it is very much a no-name 25th man on the roster type.

maybe to make it look like baseball cares without having to suspend a ton of all-stars?

just saying...

Yup. Funny...
...and more than a little suspicious.

Sorta like the company I used to work for.  Several college educated managers and office staff, as well as dozens of laborers.  When "random" drug testing time came around every month, I would always be peeing in a cup next to the same guys, while the laborers are out smoking doobies in the warehouse.  All the while our corporate literature was touting the company's sterling record on drug testing.

Me and Billy the Kid never got along. I didn't like the way he cocked his hat and he wore his gun all wrong.

Naah
I think it's more a case that the guys who get caught- 25th man types- are the ones who really would stand to benefit from using steroids. They're the kind of player that a stat boost could mean the difference between being a AAA lifer, or being an MLB bench player for a few seasons.

Same with the bullpen guys who get caught- they're often back-end types that a steroid boost can turn them from AAA journeyman to MLB middle reliever.

I don't think steroids can take a marginal player and make them a star, but they can take a marginal player and make them good enough to hang around the back end of an MLB roster long enough to get a pension.
