Gagne rumor on NYYFans

"News Radio 1080 KRLD in Dallas has just announced that a high level Texas Rangers source has said the deal sending Gagne to the Yankees "is a done deal." The deal will send 3-4 prospects from New York to Texas that will include Brett Gardner and Tyler Clippard."

Yankee fans talking about it here: http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread.php?t=103315&page=159

I'm not too high on Clippard, don't know much about Gardner. Yankee fans on that forum seem to think the trade is too good to be true, so I guess I hope it isn't.

I heard that
Gardner and Clippard are untouchable, along with Eric Duncan, Austin Jackson, Anthony Claggett, Grant Duff and Kevin Whelan.

Oh and Juan Miranda and Angel Reyes.

And Mark Melancon.

... and Jeff Karstens, Zach McAllister, Andy Phillips, Tim Norton, Christian Garcia and Daniel McCutchen.

And Francisco Cervelli.

And Shelley Duncan. And Carlos Urena.

and Kei Igawa
no, really.  at least according to a poster on the nyy forum linked to, someone asked about igawa and was told hes not available.

LOL
Yah, these "the Yankees have said the player X is off limits" rumors are getting re-freaking-dick-you-luss.

Hughes and Joba I understand. Kennedy and Tabata, okay.

But this whole thing is just getting comical.

Gas, brake, honk. Gas, brake, honk. Honk, honk, punch. Gas, gas, gas.

did this actually get announced?
i have a hard time believing 1080 announced something and it appears on a NYY forum before here.

and that they beat all the rumor mongers, tr sullivan, newberg, here, and such.

and that we would trade gagne for a large package rather than get the best guy we could.

by DSheppard on Jul 29, 2007 12:00 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

you uknow
how would those guys know if a deal is done? The players involve rarely know the second it happens...

by Longhorn on Jul 29, 2007 12:01 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah
This would be the main reason I don't believe it to be true. I think someone around here would've caught it first.

please let jeff marquez be one of them

Nope
Clippard is a #4 or #5 at best and I think Gardner is a fourth outfielder. Unless the other two prospects include someone like Austin Jackson or Ian Kennedy, no thanks.

by uthornfan on Jul 29, 2007 12:00 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

would this be in the realm of possibilities?
austin jackson, tyler clippard, brett gardner and jeff marquez

by Lonerangers on Jul 29, 2007 12:05 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Clippard
has had a bad year - the Yanks probably rushed him because of their starting pitching injuries earlier this year. Otherwise, his minor league numbers look pretty good.

by Randy Richardson on Jul 29, 2007 12:07 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

doesnt he have
meh stuff?

the guy with the 80s fastball?

maybe im thinking of someone else

by DSheppard on Jul 29, 2007 12:08 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

He's untouchable though, unfortunately
along with Humberto Sanchez, George Kontos, Mitch Hilligoss, and Matt DeSalvo.

And Wilkins Arias, Eduardo Nunez, and Andy Cannizaro.

by Brett Perryman on Jul 29, 2007 12:10 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Clippard's
strikeout numbers are pretty good for a guy without a lot of velocity.

Ugh.
Say it ain't so JD.

by Athos on Jul 29, 2007 12:08 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

i cant see
JD demanding all this for tex and then give up gagne up for this...im not worried

another poster on there
says he listened the whole time and it was just the rangers postgame show, with no such trade announced.

so yeah, false rumor.

phew.

The post game show
You mean Mike Ogulnick's gig?  I liked that spot post-game at first, but it deteriorated so badly I don't tune in any more.

Ogulnick
that poor guy has to respond to some of the most assinine callers you'll ever hear.

by Randy Richardson on Jul 29, 2007 12:36 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

no doubt
After the Lofton trade there was a guy who insisted they should have gone after Jon Garland instead because they didn't need a catcher and should have someone who made an immediate impact.

Clippard/Gardner
BA says Clippard projects as a fourth starter. Based on Gardner's minor-league numbers, he looks fairly similar to Reggie Willits- good AVG/OBP/speed guy with very little power.

Well, they were in the winter
Can't imagine that anyone would have any confidence about Clippard being a reliable starter after this year. He's hit the exact wall that was projected that he'd hit, around AAA/MLB, until he was so good in AA last year. Who knows, he may pull it back together and overcome, but I don't think anyone with objectivity is projecting that at this point.

KRLD
is really good about updating their sports news site and there is nothing about this on it...  this is a hoax...

Well
I would like to see us make a deal with the Yankees only if we can back my fellow native Dentonite, Austin Jackson.

Would you mind
reconciling his Low A and High A stats from this year for me? Was he supposed to just be bored or something?

by Brett Perryman on Jul 29, 2007 1:44 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ummm...
That's a really good question. At first it seemed fluky, but he's continued to rake now for 142 ab's, and he's showing no signs of slowing down, hitting .352 over his last 10.

Maybe it's just one of those things.

But this whole Austin Jackson thing brings up an important question: Is it okay to root for a guy who's from your hometown, even if he attended your rival high school and then got drafted by the freaking Yankees?

My robotic brain says no, but my robotic heart says yes.

Jackson
I read some scouting reports his senior year that said he was extremely lazy that year and seemed disinterested in baseball. Most of the reports said it was as if he didn't even care and that made it likely he would go to GT and play basketball. The threat of going and playing ball at GT was one of the reasons he fell in the draft. If that was actually the case, maybe he was bored in repeating low A and once they promoted him he got interested again and started trying his hardest. Seems unlikely, but anything is possible I guess.

i liked watching clippard
pitch.  Hes young and could be a valuable  starter.  but still a package centered around him for gagne is just crazy.  Id rather throw him in with tex to make an uber trade.
