Around SBN: Terry Collins, David Wright, And The Mets/Brewers Kerfuffle

7/4/07 Gameday thread

Lineup is up...

Wright vs Weaver in another seemingly hopeless matchup, where the Rangers have had a lot of luck lately. Rangers going for clinching a third straight series versus a playoff caliber team...

Talk about a guy
that has no reason of being on this team.  JHJ must have some pictures of Wash in a compromizing position.  It seems like he plays every day and even before the injuries.

And he's useless.

hairston
while i'm no hairston fan, i don't think he's bad for what he is... a utility guy, he just gets way overexposed when used too much.

i'm just glad we've been seeing byrd more than hairston in the outfield.

i really need to upgrade to directv hd (and be sucked into a new contract) or get timewarner hd... as it is i only get over the air hd and i think the rangers were only in hd once on fox

HD are the only channels i even check
when i look whats on cable.

for the longest time i had timewarner cable, which didnt have FSN HD, didnt have ESPN2 HD, didnt have NFLnetwork HD, didnt have various other HD Channels so even when the rare ranger game was in HD i didnt get it.

switched over to fios tv recently and its got all of that, much nicer.  never looked at direct hd though.

by DShep on Jul 4, 2007 7:24 PM CDT up reply actions

fios
thats one reason im reluctant to re-up with directv to get hd... i'm moving in a few months and i'm hoping to move somewhere that gets fios

if timewarner doesnt have fsn hd or espn 1-2 hd then im not wasting my money with them

Kiker tonight
6 IP, 0 R, 7 K, 0 BB. Done, with a pitch count in the low 90s. Still hitting 90+ on the gun in the 6th, and struck out the last guy he faced on a curve.

by Outworlder47 on Jul 4, 2007 7:44 PM CDT reply actions

Yep.
Galaragga just lost a no-hitter in the 6th. No runs, 6 K's, 1 BB through 6. Steve Murphy's solo homer is the only run of the game.

by Outworlder47 on Jul 4, 2007 7:51 PM CDT up reply actions

That bring his k/9 to 11.9 and bb/9 to 3.5.

i bet hes here the first game after the all star b
break.

i dont care how they do it, but get him up.

lets see...

options...

  • RW refuses to play Diaz, may as well send him down, then let botts play left some and DH some.  cat loses out and gets less playing time.
  • trade/DFA sosa
  • trade lofton while his value is up, move byrd to center, use botts in the open roster spot
what else.....

That was the resumption of a suspended game from last week.

That was the suspended game
from Friday, I believe. There was a 90+ minute rain delay, and Edinson didn't come back out. They finished that one (rather quickly, with Kevin Richardson hitting a walkoff in the first AB after the restart) today.

Mets bullpen tonight.
.2IP  6ER
.1IP  0ER
1.0IP 3ER
1.0IP 2ER

Yeah, they will overpay for relief pitching this year. Book it. And, they might be willing to give up something for Jamey Wright as well...

LEMME GET THIS STRAIGHT.
two of three from Detroit...

two of four against Boston. (should have been three; stupid third-out rule)...

... and two of three against Los Angeles...

... without Teixiera?  without Blalock?  without Kinsler?

... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

SWEEP!
SWEEP!
SWEEP!

they're real contenders...

SIR...
...i don't care about contending.  i don't even care about winning.  ...don't give a shit about the trade rumors... don't care about any of that.

what i do care about is my hometown team playing good baseball.  and we're doing that.

great defense, good quality starts, good clutch hitting.

by oc on Jul 4, 2007 10:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Happy
is good! They're playing good ball!

by Clueless on Jul 4, 2007 11:14 PM CDT up reply actions

It shows
that with good pitching and defense, a team doesn't need a line-up full of sluggers to win.

This is a concept, for some reason, has been difficult to put into practice with this franchise.

Totally agree!
So no trade talk UNLESS it involves a pitcher!
Hitters are a dime-a-dozen! Byrd, Wilk, Sammy...all of them are doing great. But they aren't winning these games...the pitching is!
Please clue-in JD...cuz he don't got one!

that they have the best record in the AL since early/mid June?

well on the rangers broadcast
they said the streak started on june 14, so i guess that would be when.

wasnt watching SC though, so thanks.  very cool if true.

Not exactly what you are looking for
http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/AL_2007_standings.shtml

but it does show how they stack up in their last 10, 20, and 30 games

Chris Young/Adrian Gonzalez for Aki Otsuka, the new Sammy Sosa/Wilson Alvarez for Harold Baines

thanks, better then anything i had
and a random comment: escobar vs tejeda.  that matchup scares me even more than wright vs weaver.

Right now
anything vs. Tejeda is a dicey proposition

ROBBY GOT BEHIND...
...against the Sox... BUT... he was able to bounce back and shut 'em down his last two innings.

...all he has to do is keep us in the game... give us 5 innings... give up no more than 3 runs... and i think we have a chance.

by oc on Jul 4, 2007 11:05 PM CDT up reply actions

YEAH
...and that.

just give us some control, Rob.

Last 18 games
The Rangers are 12-6 in their last 18.  Cleveland is also 12-6.  KC has the 3rd best record in the AL over their last 18 games at 11-7.

In the NL, the Cubs and the Brewers are both 13-5 in their last 18.

LITTLE KEY MOMENTS
Gerry Laird's sac fly in the 8th.

Jerry Hair's double play ball... AND... his diving stop in the... 3rd?  4th?

Wright's snag on that line drive back to the mound, and doubling off the runner.

by oc on Jul 4, 2007 11:02 PM CDT reply actions

sorry to bring him up, but...
im not trying to complain about the trade, im just interested in his season.

chris young tonight: 7.0 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs, 9ks.

now is the NL ERA leader

hes leading the final man vote so he should make it, but if he doesnt it would be a travesty.
