Poveda - July 5th

Omar Poveda starting for Clinton against Quad Cities. Line so far:
   4 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 5 K

Poveda is on tonight. He's getting a lot of called strikes on the breaking ball, and has hitters out in front of his change.

Poveda's 5th
Finally gave up a hit, with a double in between three grounders.

Poveda's 6th
Bloop single to left on a high curve.
Double play on a grounder to second. Runner ran into the tag.
Strikeout called on a check swing. Not sure what the pitch was, radio guys didn't say.

A few more balls that inning than the past few. This game is flying by, though. Both pitchers are working extremely quickly.

Poveda's 7th
Grounder to second, tricky play but not hit that hard.
Strikeout swinging in the dirt.
Grounder to second.

Pitch count still seems manageable. There was never anyone in the bullpen that inning, so we'll see.

I've listened to the whole thing
with the exception of the first three minutes or so. Of course, in that time, 5 outs were recorded.

The Quad Cities pitcher (Tyler Herrin) seems to be on as well. As I say that, he goes single, balk, walk, and Whittleman is up.

Whittleman
Hits a rocket to third. Force out at second, so first and third, one out, for K.C. Herren.

Herren comes through
1-0 Clinton. Poveda now stands to win if the lead holds. Slusarz has been warming up, so Omar may be done.

Poveda is done after 7
7 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 7 K.

Very, very nice.

Poop and a half
Gudex gives up a 2-run homer, Zamzow gives up a run scoring triple.  No-decision for Poveda tonight.
