New poll up -- Angels

Okay, with over 500 votes in, it appears that Bret Boone and his bat flip are the favorite reason to hate the M's, with the trauma of the late-90s finishing a not-too-distant 2nd.  You can see all the voting results from that poll here.

New poll...why do you hate the Angels?  Cast your vote at right...

What have the Rangers done?

I dont know where to start with you guys. Definitely that stupid accent, gay stetson hats, hideous team, etc etc etc. Never won a world series or seen the playoffs, cant keep your  "only"  good players (Im sure texeira will be gone shortly). I cant stand your militant manager.

Michael young! all-star please. If it wasn't for that stupid rule your shitty team would not even be represented in the all-star game and our real SS would, orland cabrera. What are you, 15 games out of first. It's amazing you even have time to berate our team.

Out of line there,
mr. ballsuck.  Very few, if any of us, here think Young really deserves to be an all-star this year, jackass.  Militant manager?  Huh?

As for the Angel-hatred, I don't care what the records are, your attitude is part of the reason we hate the Angels.  And don't think you're special, we hate the A's and Mariners as well.  Expect more and more hatred the better the Angels do.  It's actually a sign of respect, in a way.  If the Rangers were whipping the Angels every night we wouldn't hate you, we'd feel sorry for you.

You are free to hate the Rangers in any and every way you want, but I fail to see why you should expect us to love the Angels.

No crying in baseball hillbilly's
As a baseball fan, I love all teams, except maybe for the yankees, but other than that there is no paticular team I hate. Though when I read and hear (as on this blog) the hatred of a team that came from nothing to command respect, it F-ing irratates me.

The Angels are kicking ass with a line-up made of rookies! A who's who line-up. It's called chemistry shit stain and evidentlly your team dont have, and frankly will not anytime soon. So as a token of my appreciation for your fan's admiring us, I'll let you jump on the Angel band wagon. Yawll come back now Ya hearrr!!

Peace out Biatchhhhhhhhh

Wow...
I think we have a new reason to hate the Angels...

Hillbillies
Wow, I run with my tail between my legs at your clever putdowns.  And, because I am a cowtown hick, I really do have a tail.  I bow down before your obvious superiority and wordliness.  You are a model for sports fans everywhere and I will recommend you for a medal the next time I see our hick president at the hoedown.  Off to my banjo lesson now.

That Vlad Guerrero and Kelvim Escobar
sure are some pretty good rookies.  Its amazing that the Angels are able to squeak by on their $110 million payroll.

Heh ... you just have to keep in mind
That "The Beverly Hillbillies" is, was, always has been, and always will be a California creation.

Aside, I don't hate the Angels or any other baseball team.  Every team has immature, less than articulate fans.

That is all.

Time does funny things. The worst of which is, it keeps moving when you don't.

Pathetic Team Period!

Wow is right, Im speechless, though not surprised with no legitimate reasoning for your animosity against us. Because were winning, and have a good team? Because your players want to play for us? Yes, we have a couple good players, but I dont recall us trying to buy a championship! $250 mill, pathetic.

I am impressed with you guy's knowing the history of the Beverly Hillbillies. How long has A-rod been gone? Even that guy is laughing @ your sorry exscuse for an organazation all the way to the bank. You have been paying a good portion of his salary for several years, genious I tell you.

Stick to cow tipping and lets pray no other presidents come out of your shitty state. (I was stationed there year's ago, and would not wish that place on my worst enemy.)

 Have a good day

not buying a championship?
That GMJ contract is more ridiculous than the Rodriguez deal.

I can tip cows and spell better than you.  Grammar and punctuation must not be stressed much in California, either.  Go spank your rally monkey.

So many reasons
It is hard to pick just one.  Shame the multiple selections thing never works.

Though you REALLY need to include the Rally Monkey.  So much so I think you should add it in now.

by JBImaknee on Jul 9, 2007 2:36 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

yup
I would have voted for rally monkey too

by Randy Richardson on Jul 9, 2007 2:43 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rally Monkey...
would have been my #1 also.  I hate that gay simian.

by Parman on Jul 9, 2007 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rex Hudler and the Rally Monkey
Both should have been included.

Anahiem is one of those teams that, for whatever reasons, I don't feel like they deserve their success.  There is no reason why the Angels deserve to win a World Series and the Rangers don't.  They also shouldn't be one of the best teams in the AL this year.

I feel the same way about the Florida Marlins winning two World Series.  I also don't think it's fair that the Astros made the World Series before the Rangers.

I also feel like the sabatoged Brad Fulmer before he came to the Rangers, but I have no proof of that.

The Rally Monkey and Rex Hudler
Everyone hates them for that.  That doesn't count.

Rally Monkey
I disagree.  I actually kind of liked them (or had nothing against them), until I moved out to Cali, went to a game of theirs, and that stupid monkey started jumping up and down with their fans going absolutely wild.  Craziest, dumbest, thing I have ever seen.

Admit it, you forgot the monkey...

because they are so much better than us.

I would have voted for:
"because all of our players want to play for the Angels." - Gary Matthews Jr.

by willamos2 on Jul 9, 2007 3:05 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

speaking of the Angels
Garrett Anderson has become their Sammy Sosa. Terrible numbers. He has one walk in 151 ABs. They would almost unstoppable if they would just pony up and trade with Cincy for Dunn.

i vote
for john lacky but since thats not on the list i vote for the name changing

by dubman on Jul 9, 2007 3:42 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I guess
I agree with you.  I live in Abilene, and I can't remember a local sports broadcast that hasn't referenced John in some way in the last five years.  I guess we have nothing else to be proud of.

Mostly, I have never worked up any hate for the Angels, because I've never felt like we couldn't beat them.  Now the Mariners in the 90's is a completely different story.

by scourge on Jul 10, 2007 9:09 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

not to toot my own horn
but in a previous life (5 years ago), I was one of those Abilene tv sports guys referencing Lackey on a daily basis.  Small world, huh?  Don't forget...you've got Dominic Rhodes, too.  Not to mention Colts deep snapper and 4th string TE Justin Snow.  Just sayin'.....

Lots of reasons
Rally Monkey, stoned Rex Hudler, Halo sticks, Scosia (no real reason; I just never liked him as a Dodger). One ethereal one is that they're so California-y. I don't even know what that means, but their fans seem like they are. The don't play in a ballpark, they play in an amusement park with a batch of fake rocks in the OF. And years of relative success.
Well Mr. Burns had done it. The power plant had won it. With Roger Clemens clucking all the while.

angels
they are basically becoming a minarture version of the yankees and red sox. they just buy everything. players, fans, etc. atleast with the yankees and red sox they have always been a somewhat popular team around the country and very popular in their home cities. the angels were basically like the la clippers up until they started winning a few years ago, and now they might be the most popular team in LA because of all their stupid bandwagon fans... and the name change thing was a complete joke

Go to a game at Edison Field
You'll have a hate that burns like molten lava...

Still, Rex Hudler, I don't care what you say Adam, he's public enemy number one.

If the Scoot stays mute, you must commute.

I actually like Edison Field
it is just a shame it has to be filled with Angel fans.

Its cheap, easy parking, beautiful, and good lines of sight.  Probably my favorite park of those that I have been to.

The fans
That was my point. I guess I should have been more specific. I just got validated by the 17 year old skatedouche above.

I have rarely met a SoCaler who has been to Texas, but every last damn one of them has the place all figured out.

That said, I don't dislike Edison, except for the fact that the sightlines you love are so frequently obscured by the 2nd inning arrival/7th inning exits of these same schmucks.

I wouldn't call it beautiful though.

If the Scoot stays mute, you must commute.

surprise
nobody claimed Hillenbrand of waivers, thus the Angels have to eat the remainder of his 6.5 million contract. That's what they get for signing a nut.

As others were...
I'm surprised Hudler and the Rally Monstrosity weren't on this list....

BTW, Grich has a very good case for being a HoFer :P.

Ranger and Mariner fans can agree on is their hate for the Angels. From a M's fan I hated Bret Boone's bat flip too.

Your team might suck, but you guys got it right
Rex Hudler is the worst.  He's an embarrassment to our team, although no one out here is knowledgeable/objective enough to realize/care about it.

And Angel Stadium, while the best place to watch a game because of the weather, is a joke compared to the new breed of stadiums such as the Ballpark at Arlington (or whatever they call it these days).  The refurbishing was like putting a necktie on a turd.  Not only are the rocks gay and totally unrelated to baseball in any way, that green paint in centerfield  is a travesty.  Didn't the potheads who supervised the refurbishing notice how they can grow real grass out there in Hell (aka, Arlington)?  If they can grow grass there, they can grow it in friggin' SoCal.  And didn't they notice how stadiums are sorta going back towards real grass and away from fake green stuff?  Apparently not.  Dumb and ugly.

Now, how anyone can say that the Angels are a miniature version of the Red Sox and Yankees because they "buy everything" is beyond me.  Of course they've utilized the free agent market for some key acquisitions, but look at the lineup:  homegrown products at catcher (three of them!), first base, second base, third base, left field, three of five starting pitchers, and the number one 8th/9th inning relief tandem in baseball.  Having watched Angel farm talent get away to other teams for the past forty years, it is a pleasure to see the organization finally do things the right way, and  every other organization--especially the Yankees--should copy whatever they've been doing.

Finally, to say that the Angels don't deserve their championship is crazy.  Any team that went through what they went through in the 1986 ALCS deserves a World Series title and then some.  And look at their history:  In 1982 they become the first team to blow a 2-0 playoff lead, and then in '86--which was only the second year of the best of 7 format--they finally win three games in a playoff series, only to go on to lose!  They deserved a WS title; the only shame is they didn't win while Gene Autry was still alive.

Oh yeah...the Rally Monkey...it's so stupid it's funny.  Nothing more.  And c'mon...you loved him when he was jumping on Ross on "Friends" so don't be a hater now!!

solid points
i agree with you, the angels aren't the redsox/yankees of the west, as you said they have really built a team which is something i'd like the rangers to do. but building that kind of farm takes one of two things... great trades or horrible seasons to get good draft picks.

and yeah, rex hudler is a tool. i'm not sure who is worse, him or hawk harrelson
