Indians claim Koronka per Rotoworld

I hate to start a new diary just for this, but I couldn't find a better place for it.

"Indians claimed LHP John Koronka off waivers from the Rangers.
It's surprising the Indians wanted Koronka, but since moving Adam Miller to the pen did take away their rotation depth, another potential stopgap can't hurt. The 27-year-old Koronka has a has a 6.02 ERA in 28 starts and one relief appearance as a major leaguer. He'll likely be assigned to Triple-A Buffalo."

I'm surprised the Indians claimed him. I didn't really think anyone would ( I guess the Rangers didn't either). Although, I don't think it's too bad of a loss.

Koronka
he'd get blasted by that righty dominant Tigers team

Question...
For those of us not extremely familiar with the intracacies of roster management:

If Cleveland can option him to AAA, the why did the Rangers have to put him on waivers, why couldn't we have optioned him to OKC?

not entirely sure
but is it because the rangers needed a 40 man roster spot?
Forget Johnny Bench, we got Gerry "the Jet" Laird

Because...
...the Rangers removed him from their 40 man roster.

40-man...
Please tell me it wasn't so we could add Desi-mania to the 40? And without looking at the current 40, was Koronka the best decision to drop, a youngish lefty starter who has had some success?

yup
was to add desi.
but adam broke down why koronka was the choice when it happened, and it makes sense.
he was out of options after this season and he'd likely be dfa'd at that time anyway

Koronka
I think that the fact that Cleveland claimed him means that almost every other team passed on him. That says alot about his perceived value.
