Otsuka to the Mets?

I like how this guy thinks.  Maybe Otsuka and Sammy to the Mets for Milledge and another prospect?

...i have spent the last few days e-mailing and talking with good, smart people, who know what's up in baseball, and i'm beginning to sense we should not expect a big trade to help improve the Mets...if it's any player, it'll be Mark Buehrle, maybe a guy like Akinori Otsuka, and the like, but even that is sounding like a stretch...obviously, all this could change on a dime depending on who is a buyer and who is a seller, but, if this continues to be be the case, and the Mets do not make a trade, then the ship must improve itself from within...

...as i see it, to improve for a second-half run, the Mets must a) get a right-handed bat for the bench, b) get a right-handed bat for the starting lineup, c) stabilize the starting rotation, and d) start setting roles in the bullpen...

...i have accepted that it makes sense to trade Lastings Milledge...i'm not happy about it, because i enjoy his style and want to see him succeed...but, if he still holds a similar value to what he had in the past, well, then he needs to go if the team intends to significantly improve from the outside in, it's that simple...

...therefore, if the Mets have just one bullet, i.e. milledge, do they use it for a bat, a starter or a reliever...

...i also believe they need a right-handed bat from the bench, who was not alive during the Eisenhower Administration...seriously, this team is too good to be missing this type of role player...as much as the Mets need an old man in the clubhouse for leadership, they are more in need of a guy who can hit a fastball, who is young enough to actually play a position, who is not a back-up catcher and who can provide a little pop every now and then, like a Sammy Sosa, who would not cost much...i know, i can't believe i am advocating sosa either, but i am...don't get me wrong, he's not my first option, but he's an option nevertheless...

...obviously, a guy like Scott Linebrink will not be available this time around, and i don't get the sense that the Mets have interest in Rangers RHP Eric Gagne, since a major need in relief is reliability and gagne is not that...however, Rangers RHP Akinori Otsuka is a perfect fit, and is very much available, though it sounds like the Mets will first need to outbid the Tigers and Phillies, which will be tricky, and it will likely cost Milledge, and maybe more to get him...what's more, otsuka can be controlled through 2009, either by paying him arbitration or one-year contracts...either way, he'd be on the team for two more seasons, and so i assume he's of major interest to omar...the thing is, i suspect the other teams can offer more than the Mets, which means, again, there must be an internal solution...

Matthew Cerrone of MetsBlog considers Otsuka the perfect fit, though the price could be Lastings Milledge.
