Some stuff

Things I thought I'd share...

John Sickels is doing an "All Questions Answered" thread, answering any questions that are asked on that thread before 5 p.m. Central time (one question per person, and no multiple-part questions).  If you want to throw a question out there, please make sure you don't duplicate a question already asked, since there are quite a few Rangers questions up already...

BTF has a link to an article about the assistant g.m. of a minor league team getting canned for smoking weed at the stadium.  There are 690 comments, which I'm not reading, but I'm guessing involve a spirited debate about the wisdom or harm of the herb...

FJM still hates Jay Mohr.  However, if you follow the link to the new Mohr piece, the comments are pretty funny, with a mix of "you suck" and "quit hatin' on the Slam Man!!!" posts from various folks...

FJM also has some love for Evan Grant, in their "semi-annual-non-negative-post"...

A Rangers press release notes that Julio Borbon is third on the all time University of Tennessee triples list.  Woot.

And Keith Law was very chatty today...

Law
Did Law talk Rangers much?

The Sickels AQA is awesome...I had to think awhile for a question that hadn't already been asked.

Yep
Looking forward to his responses.

One Rangers question about JDs job
Sounds like Law thinks JD has been pretty good this summer.

by OKC Ranger Fan on Aug 16, 2007 4:00 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah
That was my question.  I submitted about 10 or 15 Rangers questions about how they did with the draft, trades, how the farm system is looking now all with different names and locations.

Then the one I do a bit with he answers.

ok
i might have skimmed to quickly, but I could not find that JD question at all
Forget Johnny Bench, we got Gerry "the Jet" Laird

Volquez
Dude is not in the OKC rotation anymore per the Aug 16th OKC game notes - looks like he's a big leaguer again.

It was
inevitable.
"Really we should put Benoit in the rotation, he'd be Johann [sic] Santana but for 30 million less." - Sharky, Aug. 8 2007

Huh.
Is that online?

But it's not specifically announcing he's up with the ML club, is it?

Julio Borbon
He's on the Spokane roster at MiLB.com.

EG in the DMN blog explains ...

http://rangers.beloblog.com/archives/2007/08/borbon_straight_up.html

Could someone smarter than me explain this excerpt:

3. Because of the timing of the contract, Borbon essentially has four years of minor league options built in. And since the Rangers can recall him with the instructions not to report on Sept. 1 when rosters can be expanded, he would potentially not be out of options until the start of the 2012 season. He would be 26 by then, so the Rangers should have a good idea of what they have.

20 days
If you are sent down but recalled within 20 days, it doesn't count as an option, correct? If so, that would explain the September 1st date.

haha...
that was rather silly, no doubt. But, I got a good laugh at this. Thanks for sharing.

"Let's go Mark T"... that was just to lolers stupid. Since most of us have been calling him Tex since the day we drafted him.

Hey CJ... don't forget the Halo3 Xbox party in October.

Jay Mohr
I used to think he could be somewhat funny at times but these columns are just...awful. So stale and just not funny in any way.

But Adam is right...I got enough chuckle out of some of the comments that it almost made up for the 60 seconds of my life wasted on reading Mohr's article in the first place.

I like how one commenter says "FJM owns you, Mohr" and then Mohr himself posts a comment asking "so...what is FJM?"

FJM
Someone should tell him it stands for "Fire Jay Mohr." After all, the initials do fit...
"Then I met some friends for a beer, went to a BoDeans's concert, and son of a vondruke, if I didn't leave him at the concert hall."

The comments are great
"Mohr haters: Just because you dont understand intelligent writing dosen't mean its not funny material."

Yeah, those jokes must have flown over my head.

Well Mr. Burns had done it. The power plant had won it. With Roger Clemens clucking all the while.

Mohr
I've never really given a damn about him one way or the other. His standup sucks, but he's been okay in a few films.

But man, that article was painfully hackneyed. So was the other one, although, contrary to FJM, I think IROC jokes are still funny:

What does IROC stand for?

Italian Retard Out Cruising...

The comments were good though, mainly because all his supporters seemed to be Jim Rome Clone douchebags. My favorite comment, however, was from this lady:

"Nice article slam man. "Are you always this on-fire?" P.S.-Congratulations on landing the role of Larry Birkhead in the new Anna Nicole Smith movie."

What I don't get is, he has to know these columns are complete clankers. Why keep on?

I will not get my comeuppance!

Theory
If I were him, I might find it amusing to see just how bad I could be and still collect a paycheck.
