Alright Rheino...
Lets get out of the 1st inning without giving up runs.

After that, proceed to pitch like you regularly do.

Game 1
To paraphrase Chris Farley:

"Remember the time that you guys scored 30 runs? In one game? That was awesome!"

"Then I met some friends for a beer, went to a BoDeans's concert, and son of a vondruke, if I didn't leave him at the concert hall."

I dunno what to think of our hitters at times.
Botts up 2-0.  Get two straight below average fastballs right down the middle of the plate and cant even put them in play.  Luckily he got a call from the ump to walk.

Cruz up 2-0 and swings at an offspeed pitch in the dirt.  Then proceed to strikeout.

I know im nitpicking after a 20 run game but stuff like that really discourages me.  At least Laird went opposite field for a hit.

What do we really have to lose Adam
I know he has not hit well in the minors but maybe he is just one of those guys that never hits minor league pitching and gets to the majors and has a decent caree...he would only take AB's from Vasquez and Laird

but he'd be better than Vasquez till Blalock gets back, more exciting to see what Metcalf does instead of what Vasquez does now that He's in the big leagues......I think he should still be getting regular AB's in AAA, but hell the kid has done good today, but so has Vasquez.....but if anything he's better than Melhuse, and we'd solidify a top 5 pick lol

what the hell are you talking about
i looked at the previous 20 or so posts before yours, and almost all of it is about the game.

talking about the double header record is certainly part of this game.

but even if we were talking 100% about 30-3... uh, hello, this is a dead season that has been TERRIBLE the past few games with getting completely beat down by pitchers, and then we set a record.  thats worth of a weeks discussion, let alone talking about it a couple hours later.

The pitch that Laird threw into RF was a strike also (called a ball). In a one-run game, why do the quick throw to 1st? That started the decline also.

It's amazing. But this single night will go down as perhaps the best 8 hours in Rangers history. Years from now, people will see the 30 factor, but forget how painful and disappointing this year was. Somehow tonight it sorta worked out. The Zen/Kharma it all came back around. Enjoyed it all. Thanks to all!

best 8 hours
I don't know, they did win their first playoff game in '96, that was pretty cool.  30 runs is fun and all, but I'd rather have playoff wins or pennant clinchers any day.

1996
I hear ya. If you want it to finish second, fine. But don't expect me to overlook this because I can't fully recollect something from 11 years ago. After all, we lost that series. And, we won tonight, twice, we won the series, we won! Enjoy. I say.

by 3Bagger on Aug 22, 2007 11:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh, I'm definitely enjoying it,
but I draw the line at calling it the best night in Ranger history.  It might be in the top 5, depending on how much you like Nolan's no-hitters, Rogers' perfect game, and the first (and only, sadly) playoff win in franchise history.

by t ball on Aug 22, 2007 11:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Individual Stats
like no-hitters and perfect games mean less to me. This game involved a rookie with 5 hits. A first time save. A slumping Salty, finally acting like Teixeira. Kason, not headed to the surgeon, but now 6-1. Vasquez, almost 0-50, or so it seemed, a hero. Way beyond the 30 runs, I thought the game(s) had a certain sub-story quality involved, particularly for those of us (at LSB) who actually follow this stuff. It was beautiful story. Very memorable. Something to sincerely cheer about.

by 3Bagger on Aug 22, 2007 11:56 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah the thing that made that game 100x better
was that all our young guys played real well......Salty, Murphy, Metcalf, Botts and Cruz had multi hit games.....Byrd had a real good game and we're trying to see if he's good enough to play CF next year.....Vasquez even hit, not that he's apart of the future.......Gabbard had a pretty damn good start(is this guy consistent or what???), Littleton who's been struggling after a great last season gets the 3 inning save

it was really great to see all them guys have big games and we only had 2 pitchers in that game, one started and got the win and the other pitched 3 innings and got the save.......I know i'll remember this forever........talk about the most unexpected lineup to pull that off lol and we got the pitching to go with it..........

and to top it off the second game was a good one, we came back and won it, Benoit and CJ came up huge....and Metcalf, what the hell happened to this guy? lol

this was close to the best day of baseball for me, mostly because it was a FULL day  of baseball, 8 Hours!!!! and again, how fun was it to see the young guys come through? but 8 hours and every minute of it, was great.....

by slash on Aug 23, 2007 12:53 AM CDT up reply actions

That's right
Any win in 1996, 1998, or 1999 was better than today.  Any of them, but the single playoff win, especially.  The talk about this being the best day in franchise history must be younguns or something.  Nolan Ryan no-hitters?  The Kenny Rogers perfect game?  Not to take anything away from tonight, but all of those were more special to me.

by Dustin on Aug 22, 2007 11:48 PM CDT up reply actions

Look at it this way
It's a record. It's only happened once in the AL.

Every year some team wins a division.  Now, even, six teams win a division.

So in terms of significance, this night stands alone, and it's the Rangers doing the standing.  In terms of accomplishment, then I agree team wins and division, league, and world series titles trump it.

My bet is this double header, with the 30 run game, gets more record book attention than any team that doesn't at least four-peat at the WS level.

Time does funny things. The worst of which is, it keeps moving when you don't.

save
mlb needs to change the rule on the 3 inning automatic save. It's just nuts that a guy can be awarded a save in one of the biggest blowouts in the history of the game. It takes away from the meaning of the stat.

eh
the thing is that its always non closers that get it  a few times a season so its not like all time great closers padded their stats with saved in 10 run games or anything.

obviously its a meaningless save, but i dont think its a big deal.  but yes, it wouldnt exactly be a problem if it was ended.

anyway i was watching sportcenter and they showed clips of 6-8 other broadcast teams looking at the scoreboard and reacting to it.  good stuff.

Best Night in Recent Ranger History
Can't ask for anything more. Two wins averaging a 19.5 to 5 score.

What a night for America.
