long time listener, first time caller

i have been visiting this site for quite a while now (even remember reading posts from some of you at the old espn board)...i have never really been much of a blogger, message board/chat room -er, but since i have been lurking around in the shadows here for so long i feel like i should introduce myself (red - from texas, now in okc) and perhaps even take the initiative to embarass myself from time to time...

when i checked the site today for reactions to yesterday's double header i thought i'd post my email to the booth last night which some of you might find slightly amusing:

being a rangers fan i was obviously thrilled watching the first game tonight...then the second game got underway...yes, there were milestones and records and general statistics a-plenty to mention, but dear god, how many pained, unrelated, far reaching opportunities can you concoct to reference the 30 runs, josh? by the third inning i calculated at least 20...i called a friend of mine just to ask him if he was listening to the broadcast. when he said that he was i felt a little relieved to know that someone else was suffering along with me because i don't believe that i could have expressed to him in words how absolutely mind numbing it has been listening to you recall it over and over and over...it is one thing to appreciate the fact and dissect it to some degree, but it is another thing entirely to beat the living daylights out of it immediately afterwards...it already feels old now...i am surprised that you haven't figured out a way to tie it into some sort of 80s television reference yet

Poor Josh
It is like he knows he shouldn't do it, but he just can't help himself...

I agree completely......
Josh is a total ass-whipping on most nights, but he was still beating the 30-run horse late into the 2nd game, while that game was still very much in doubt....obviously not a big fan, but last night bordered on complete lunacy.

Come on
Give the guy a break. There have not been too many things to get excited about this season. And yes, he was a bit over the top but look at all of the media coverage it is getting today. The guy has to do a ~3 hr broadcast about 150 games (Fox responsibility and National B'cast) a year. I personally cannot imagine trying to do that job. I myself would spend every minute outside of play by play asking Tom why Brad Wilkerson still has a uniform, making calls on his strikeout (looking or swinging), and offering up a percentage on whether Brad gives a look at the umpire as if it were his first time to get rung up.

I DISAGREE...
...you've got two sub-par teams playing each other... two games, at that... neither of which have a whole lot to play for... neither of which have much of an immediate future...

i mean, basically it comes down to... something to talk about.  it was history in the making... and fresh of the heels of breaking records, and a very disappointing season... it was something to celebrate...

i was listening to the radio broadcast, and it seemed like every other inning, Victor or Eric had dug up a new feat that hadn't yet been mentioned.  and i didn't really mind it.  if anything it made me feel more and more proud of our boys... i mean, this was the lead story on every sportscast... but, i can see how it might have felt annoying...

...as for Lewin... i'm on the fence with him...

he's a bit nerdy sometimes... but i understand he has to be... just for the sake of the broader viewing audience... little leaguers, older fans... he's just doing his job.

for my entertainment value, i think he calls a good game... him and Grieve.

same with Eric and Victor... wouldn't want to hear or watch anybody else.

I ALMOST FORGOT!
...welcome aboard!

i'm not very well liked around here...

i tend to be one of the few optimists... and, i kinda think stats are overrated...

but... yeah... happy bloggin'.

thanks
i love listening to the radio broadcasts and was curious how eric and vince handled it in game two...what drove me nuts was josh working it into every sentence he possibly could...personally, i cant stand lewin and i always remember norm, on the ticket, going on a rant when lewin was first hired about how 'everybody is going to absolutely LOVE him'...that still makes me laugh

Josh..
The thing he does that drives me crazy is coming up with obscure verbs to describe what a hitter has done at the plate. How exactly do you "ladle" a ball into the stands? Or "parachute" a ball into the outfield? Or "spoon" a ball out of play?

etc, etc, etc....
