Some Friday p.m. stuff

Just some stuff to throw out there on a slow Friday...

There's a new Prospectus Hit List up, with the Rangers coming in at #23...but the interesting thing to me is the notes that the Rangers have the worst starting pitching in the majors (by SNLVAR) but the best bullpen in the A.L. (by WXRL).

Keith Law has a chat session up, which includes some Elvis Andrus love...

The Cubbies have traded for Steve Trachsel...

Mark Teixeira is "happy to be a brave, so happy to be in Atlanta."  And more...

Bud Selig says it is "very important" for interim Astro manager Cecil Cooper to get the job permanently.  But, hey, Astros...no pressure there...

More out of Detroit on the Pudge Rodriguez situation, with the Tigers having to decide whether the poor catching market this offseason makes it worthwhile to exercise their $13 million option on Pudge Rodriguez for 2008.  I have to wonder if that's a team that might have some interest in Gerald Laird this offseason, should the Rangers look to move him...

Law chat
Shane (Seattle): Talking Heads or Placebo?

What the heck? That's like asking: Babe Ruth or Aaron Boone?

But that river of tears has dried for all of us.

Laird
Who could the Rangers realistically expect to receive from the Tigers in a trade for Laird?

Pitchers
You think we could get Andrew Miller or Virgil Vasquez?

You won't get Andrew Miller for
Laird unless Dombrowski is high and even then he wouldn't do it.

Teixeira
maybe the people who kept whining saying that we should have kept him will read that.  Then it will finally get into their heads that he was NEVER going to sign an extension here.

Hicks could have offered him 300 million, and Teixeira would have said no.  The guy just didn't want to be a Texas Ranger.

But at least the dude is honest.  And really I'm grateful for it - the fact that he postured himself as he did was what allowed JD to get rid of him for that stud package.

Why does Bud Selig care about whose GM in Houston?
isnt that kinda screwed up?  i mean he was an owner forever i didnt see him lining up minority upper management.   i really just dont understand why he cares or goes public with that.  Besides, doesnt he want the most qualified guy or girl regardless of race or cultural background, isnt that what the top baseball league in the world should be about, and doesnt the best possible hire help baseball as whole a lot better than a charity hire?  Im not saying it would be one, but its a little premature to call it a crime if they interview 10 guys and choose someone else they feel will do a better job or be more qualified for.  Also, id say going in-house for that position worked fantastic last time, im sure its pure genius to not interview a mess of candidates from outside the organization after the season and just hire from within.

Ex Brewers Owner...

pfffffffffft.

Selig
My guess is because he's a completely worthless excuse for a human being, but that's just me.

If any of you have ever read John Helyar's Lords of the Realm, that tells you all you need to know about what a total sack of crap Selig is.

Oh hey crackheads
Maybe try complaiing about the minority qoutas when the apply to any OTHER team, and you'll have some credibility...

Pretty funny you would chose this instance to complain about.

Well not really, you just down want the Astros to have a bad GM/M. But the Rangers, it's great!

Well shove off!

Because...
Cecil Cooper was a part of the Brewer's success in the early 80's when he was the owner.  That is my guess, trying to help out a friend.

Teixeira
The way that I read his interview was that he didn't want to be in a losing/rebuilding situation in Texas.  He would have been OK in Texas if the Rangers were in a position of winning and being continually successful.  Who can blame him for that?

Pretty much..
I got the same feel from it. The guy wants to win, I don't see how you fault him for that. It would have been nice to see a winner built around Teixeira here in Arlington, but it is what it is I guess, and trading him really set the Rangers into the REAL rebuilding process they've needed to undergo for a few years now...Whether or not he wins in Atlanta is to be seen, because I don't think they'll be making the playoffs this year, and I don't see how they'll be much better next year...I'll be interested to see what he does come fall of next year.

The Braves ain't getting any younger......
He sure sounds like he might re-sign with the Braves...lots of reasons according to the interview.  His wife is "home" and her husband is making millions.  I predict the Braves.

I still think Baltimore
may break the bank to try and get him, but if he wants to win.....

Yes!
Love the qouta system!

HOW YA LIKE THAT AJM!

Astros get crap manager...luv it!

I'll bet, AJM will make more blogs about what a poor manager Cecil Cooper is than Ron Washington easily..

how do you know Cecil Cooper is a bad manager?
Answer that.  Why do you think he's bad?

Also, it's spelled "quota".

I dunno
If he's not, why are you guys mad?

It just means the Astros wont win in 08. Dont cry. I doubt they'll be dumb enough to mortgage the franchise 3+ years like the Rangers with Ron Washington.

We can hope, though
I think they should give him a contract until 2009.

Just like the Rangers and Ron Washington.

In fact, maybe they could show a true commitment to diversity, and give him a big contract until 2012. Why not? Show the world you're serious about minority diversity, Astros. Why just equal the Rangers? Why not do them one better?

Fair is fair, why would that be a problem?

LOL, Adam would shit a brick if that happened.
