Good news for Adam

Eric Byrnes resigns with Arizona

According to the Arizona Republic, Eric Byrnes has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Diamondbacks.

The deal is said to be worth around $30 million and comes shortly after the two sides reportedly broke off negotiations. The newspaper speculates that with Byrnes signed long term and both Chris Young and Justin Upton not going anywhere, the Diamondbacks may look to part with Carlos Quentin.

Quinton
I'd be all over him.  Outstanding minor league resume with consistent 400 obp and 500 slg.  This offseason could be a great time to buy low on him.

I'm puzzled
by this.  They already have some young outfielders and I would think they have better places to spend their money as they enter a period of contending for the playoffs.

and I'd add
that it seems they're buying high on Byrnes, and, if they're really considering dealing Quentin, they'd be selling low on him at the same time.  I thought Byrnes was smarter than that.  Perhaps they feel they can have an adequate OFer with Byrnes and get a valuable arm packaging Quentin to shore up an area of weakness.

But Byrnes is
A Real Baseball Player TM, which Adam would realize if he just got his nose out of his Bill James Spreadsheet long enough to see.

Morris favorite players
Are Jason Botts and Gerald Laird.

I dont think Bill James spreadsheets are what he's been reading.

Nice try though.

I don't think you know who Bill James is
Nice try though...

Sharky
hasn't ever actually read anything that Bill James has written, but he can tell a lot better than the rest of us whether he will be good as he matures. And then how good he would be if he wound up with the Astros.

How many consecutive
All Star games would Botts and Laird be in if they were Rangers?

by DJCahill on Aug 7, 2007 8:58 PM CDT up reply actions

Er,
that should have been Astros.  They would both be awesome as Astros.

cant remember their catcher
but Laird and maybe Aki anybody?????

yay
Eric Byrnes will not be a Ranger in 2008.
But that river of tears has dried for all of us.

writing on the wall
says that Tom Hicks is going to make Torii Hunter a very rich man.

BTW, Hunter is .233 /.291 / .425 / .716 since ASB.

Tom thinks.............
that this is what the fans want.

He thinks this will buy him cred with Randy Galloway and Evan Grant, by proving that hes willing to spend $.

IS JD running this team, or Hicks.

I feel like Tom has to make one of these deals every couple of years.  Why cant he just let JD make up the team?  Or do you think this is something JD would support?

I stand corrected

Well
I wouldn't rule out Andruw.

And in that case, I wonder if Teixeira may still be adding value to this org.

Cause the real writing on the wall is Schuerholtz can't keep both.

Aaaaand Tommy Hunter is freed.

ha ha
What a foolish move. Too bad it wasn't one of our divisional rivals making it.

I don't get this at all. They have possibly 2 of the top 4 young CFers in all of baseball, under cheap control for years, and they sign flashinthepan d-lister Byrnes to a 30 million dollar contract?

One downside to this. To contradict my pal RangerMoto, I don't think this is good news for the Rangers. Every other FA centerfielder's price just went up 15%, I'd say.

Aaron "SupadupadopeGrit" Rowand just popped an erection...

I will not get my comeuppance!

yup
pretty bad move, the only thing i'll give the dbacks is it's only 3 yrs.. so it's not quite gmj bad.
