Barry Zito?

Zito's numbers: 8-10, 5.08, 86 K's, 60 BB's, 1.47 (WHIP)

This has been discussed some, but while watching Bonds tonight I couldn't help but consider how lucky the Rangers were! It's like the reverse Curse of Chan Ho Park. The best NON-signing we ever did. Thank you Scott Boras! You greedy saint of a man! We offered a measly $100 million, shame on us.

Anyone else feel this way? Are there stats I'm not seeing? Will he bounce back to a solid #1?

Personally, I don't think so.

you do realize
With those numbers he'd easily be the best starter on the Rangers, right? Not that it disproves your point, but it is a little depressing.
But that river of tears has dried for all of us.

well,
actually, with those numbers, he'd be behind Gabbard and McCarthy.

Yeah.
And those guys are cheap and riskless.

I'm just saying, spending big bucks on Starters is what everyone wants in December, but the best system is stacking the minor leagues and throwing arms against the wall. So to speak.

Pitching in NL and
in a pitcher friendly park does help

if we're
going strictly on numbers at this point, i dont think he's been easily better than brandom mccarthy.
They have around the same ERA, and their BB/K %'s are pretty similar.
McLovin...What a great name, sounds like a sexy hamburger

Zito
True. So there's an AL and BPIA adjustment. Making Gabbard the bomb? And a steal.

If A-Rod opts out (or not) we are sitting pretty on salaries. I'm not saying Zito isn't better than Gabbard and the like, but for the cash outlay? Wow. And it's all about the Benjamins.

he pitches
in a neutral park (rangers are a hitters park)

he pitches in the NL (al has the DH)

Pretty sure AJM wanted Zito big time
Didn't he? I cant recall.

Pretty sure all LSB did, since he sucked.

Yes
I wanted him too. Sharky.

Zito
I didn't want him. Didn't like his walk rate, and thought he was going to get paid like an ace, when he hasn't been one in several year.

I was glad we passed then, and I'm even more happy about that decision now.

Agreed....
though I did want Schmidt or Pettitte.

Schmidt, it turns out was damaged goods.

Pettitte is still looking ok....

You do realize...
...Zito is not a latin player, right?  Just trying to figure out why you're hating.  Not like you've ever seen him play.  Do you even like baseball?

I just dont like bad contracts...
Zito was a bad, bad contract...

I think most LSBers like to overspend for free agents, so I think ya'll probably wanted him. I dont remember specifically though..

Really we should put Benoit in the rotation, he'd be Johann Santana but for 30 million less.

8/140
Was probably worth it.

I dunno, the Rangers did something to tick Tex off though. Probably just their general lack of making amy effort to sign their own guys year after year (except Young).

they signed Blalock long-term too
Both contracts are looking pretty bad.

Wow
Research?  What's that?  Nice, Cahill.

I like my comment:

Zito will dominate...

Man
He's just all over the place tonight.  Somebody must have laced the coffee at Jack-in-the-Box...

I wouldn't have signed him for those dollars.
I've never really been a big fan of his either, however, he is the kind of pitcher that can get his mechanics slightly out of whack pretty easily and once he gets it corrected he can easily win 10 - 12 straight games. His curve has been flat this year but it will bite once again and he'll be just fine. He was a good signing except the price was to high. You know, Zito can pitch a little.

Zito is very good
He's an All-Star pitcher...just not this year. It happens.
What? Me Worry?

by Clueless on Aug 8, 2007 12:51 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

mistakes happen
I was all for throwing the massive contract at Zito...sadly, it looks like it would've been Chan Ho part deux

and I've been proven wrong.  I honestly think we need fireballers in here, guys that can bring the heat and mix in a knee-buckling curve or a stout changeup - and I would prefer lefties in our rotation (Zito being a lefty with a great curve being two reasons I wanted him here so bad)
