and i seem to recall dinardo destroying us a few weeks ago.

well, good luck rangers.  i wouldnt mind winning another season.

i hope salty has a good game, he could use one.

by DShep on Aug 8, 2007 6:58 PM CDT reply actions

Salty has settled down
He's 4-14 with a couple of doubles and lots of hard hit balls in the last three games. He's seen a lot more pitches, and on the radio today they had soundbytes of him saying that all of the bench time had him way overanxious.

by Brett Perryman on Aug 8, 2007 7:01 PM CDT up reply actions

how many pitches
is he seeing per/AB.  Ive never seen a guy swing at so many 1st pitches.
I stand corrected

by rkh on Aug 8, 2007 7:05 PM CDT up reply actions

The good news
is that he isn't really that kind of hitter naturally. He was just overagressive for several reasons in his first few games. You can look at his previous numbers at any level and see that he has to have seen some pitches.

by Brett Perryman on Aug 8, 2007 7:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Byrd
don't you ever watch Byrd's ABs?.

by Randy Richardson on Aug 8, 2007 7:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Wash
seems to take pride in getting all his players some game action

thats just one of the reasons wash sucks........

its too bad..I love Wash's upbeat attitude and positivity, but he sucks at lineups, bullpen management, and anything else that happens between the first pitch and the last pitch of a game.

I think he makes the perfect coach, unfortunately we made him a manager.

I stand corrected

Howe

by HypoLuxa on Aug 8, 2007 7:05 PM CDT up reply actions

bullpen management
i actually think hes been pretty good with the bullpen the past 2 months or so.

early on in the season i was complaining all the time but lately i cant really remember objecting to many (or any really) of his moves.

you disagree?

lineup stuff and giving some players too much playing time and such though.. yeah.. not too happy with that.  though its not like he has had a fully healthy team all year long.

im not sold on wash long term, but I think hes done well enough that I dont think he needs to be fired in the offseason or anything.  im fine with seeing how things progress next year.

and yeah even if we do end up getting rid of him, ill still like him.  good guy.

by DShep on Aug 8, 2007 7:07 PM CDT up reply actions

the pen
mgt has indeed been better lately

but i cant wait for the outrage when Jack Benoit comes out of the pen tonight for a save and gives it up

wash keeps insisting that CJ is not the closer, and that Jack will get his shot.

I agree he should not be fired....Ive even posted that he should get another year added to his deal.  Seems inconsistent to bring up a bunch of kids(hopefully more to come next year) and then expect the mgr not to play the vets if he's working on a short term contract and feels like he's got to win to keep his job.  He should get another year on his deal.

Hopefully then Wash would feel free to set Wilky and Sosa on their respective asses.

Of course if JD was the GM we all want him to be he DFA those spares and take those cards out of Wash's hands.

I stand corrected

He should at least recognize
that his chances of establishing himself as a SP are much better outside of Boston. Of course Texas isn't the easiest place to do that though.

gabbard
lewin asked him something about pitching in boston vs texas or something similar. and he talked about how great it was to pitch there, that the crowd was really loud and into it, etc because of the history there, etc.

he then said he wasn't trying to say that can't happen with the rangers, they just need to win, etc.

also mentioned how he still checks the redsox standings because he has some good friends there.

overall nothing bad, he was just honest.

Teixeira's departure from the team makes me a little more sensitive to how players like it here.  I know there have been many players that have loved it here, but Tex acted like this was the shittiest team to play for. He obviously had his reasons (Showalter/Washington/Losing), but you would think he would have shown some remorse about leaving the area.  Oh well.

I am sad to see him in a Braves uniform but he seems like a brat that always gets his way.  I'll get over it.

Knoxy
Something that cracked me up on Knox...

One night last summer we were sitting in the Platinum Club (or whatever the Gold Club is now called, the one behind home plate) during the game because it was so freaking hot, and Knox was working on a couple of beers. He would walk through that area every several minutes and grab a few drinks each time. Went on all night.

A couple of beers aren't going to do anything to him of course, but who drinks like that while working on TV?

Murray
Good to see you are ready to give up on him after five career outings. He may not ever be a major league pitcher, but it he is it will be as a lefty specialist. Give him some time to see what he can do before saying he should be released.

Also, I am not sure what has happened to Littleton but he has been terrible this year. I guess it is all related to him not throwing strikes, although I would still rather see him than Feldman.

by uthornfan on Aug 8, 2007 9:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Littleton has been terrible?
We're talking about a 24 year-old reliever who, before tonight, was sporting a 4.13 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP.

Those are very decent numbers for a young reliever in just 24 IP (league average is 4.07 or so), especially when you consider the fact that hes been shuttling between here and OKC and not getting steady appearances until recently.

Just wondering if you are the type of person who thinks Fx2 has had a good year: 4.80 ERA and 1.49 WHIP.

by inactive lsb user on Aug 8, 2007 9:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Littleton
In his last ten appearances, Littleton has a 5.65 ERA and has allowed runs in five of them. He is also giving up over a hit per inning and walking 4.5 per nine innings over that stretch. He also loaded the bases last night without getting an out and only Frankie saved him from allowing two or three runs. Sorry, that doesn't impress me.

by uthornfan on Aug 8, 2007 10:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Ok
Then, what that tells me, is that Wes Littleton has been struggling a little bit the last month. I don't think I need to look this up, but I would assert that good appearances were sprinkled in those last 10 outings (odds are at least, you can fact check me if you want, I could be wrong).

Frankie saved him in that inning, surely Littleton has helped others at times too. Did it impress you when Frankie gave up 3 runs in the subsequent inning?

by inactive lsb user on Aug 8, 2007 10:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Frankie
Why do you keep bringing him up? I never said that Frankie was pitching like Mariano Rivera. What does he have to do with a discussion on how Littleton has struggled this year?

by uthornfan on Aug 8, 2007 10:17 PM CDT up reply actions

I keep bringing him up
because you didn't address this comment: "Just wondering if you are the type of person who thinks Fx2 has had a good year: 4.80 ERA and 1.49 WHIP."

This is the first I've seen a LSBer take issue with Littleton's performance. But nobody has been ripping Fx2 to shreds. If Littleton has been terrible, how bad has Frankie been for you?

The reason I brought it up is because they happen to be RHP's out of our bullpen, and Fx2 has not been sent down once this year, even though he has struggled a lot more than Littleton on the YEAR. Littleton has only struggled recently. That's all.

Frankie
No I don't think Frankie has been good this year, but I still fail to see what my opinion of Frankie has to do with the fact Littleton is struggling.

by uthornfan on Aug 8, 2007 10:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Because if push came to shove
on performance basis, Frankie should be sent down before Littleton. They're both young, right-handed relievers, although Frankie is 3 years older.

He should not be having as bad of a year as he is, and, I realize that he could easily bounce back next year. Of course, everyone thinks he has a higher ceiling and better stuff (not a closer, IMHO), which is why he has not been sent down.

I don't care if Littleton doesn't have Francisco's stuff. I like people that are good at getting outs.

Ray Fosse
and the A's broadcrap crew are at it again. They just showed a hilarious graphic of Mark Ellis' RBI production from the last four years (52, 55, 54, 52, or something close to that effect).

First, you don't evaluate offensive players by their RBI's as we've seen with Slammy, Pedro Feliz, et al.

Then, in a true moment of homerism, they go on to expose themselves by saying, "Hahaha. Talk about consistency!"

I feel sorry for those of you who had to grow up listening to these hacks.
