This will be back to back games in HD no?

When will DFW start getting FSSW in HD?

Baseball is truely brilliant in HD.

Gabbard is our "ace"...yes I believe that!

If they're not going to play I think I'm okay that the game will be blacked in Houston.  Sucks but I won't mind not watching Wiffy 2nite.

Why even bother to fill out a lineup card these days that does not have Botts or Saltalamacchia written on it? You'd think the Rangers were in a pennant race or something. I could not care less about Wilkerson playing 1B.

Geez...
Tiggers blow a 7-0 lead to the A's.  Now 7-7 in the 9th, with Todd Jones having allowed a 2 run homer, 2 more baserunners, and now a wild pitch to put the winning run at third with none out.

Yeah, they didn't need a new closer...

i
cant understand murph not playing center.  Lets see if he can handle it.  The byrd man probably, shouldnt, get signed to a contract next year so lets see murph.  Its gonna be a year (2008) where we see the potential that this young team has.  It wont be a ring year, but hopefully a big boost going into 2009.  Lets see a full year of murph, salty, botts, and cruz.  I do not want to see them sit next year unless they are injured.

by rentz on Sep 2, 2007 8:45 PM CDT reply actions

I...
already emailed the quote to firejoemorgan.

"OPS doesn't tell you anything about what the player does for the team.  Just that he gets on base and has some power.  But it's just a number."

Wonderful insight Joe.  After all, homers and RBIs and everythign else in baseball is just numbers as well.  Let's just instead of actually playing a game, the two teams can come out on the field and argue about who has more team chemistry.

by rangers85 on Sep 2, 2007 8:54 PM CDT up reply actions

i disagree...
... i don't have much of an argument when it comes to numbers...

but, stats, no matter how impressive, don't really mean squat to me if your team's not winning... or at the very least playing good, consistant baseball...

i think he has a point when stating OPS is a poor measurement for clutch hitting.

by oc on Sep 2, 2007 9:00 PM CDT up reply actions

OPS
I think the point is, OPS IS a good measure of a players hitting. It means they are getting on base AND hitting for some power. so they are helping their team by doing both of those.

If guys dont get on base then you get a bunch of 1 run home runs. You need runners on base to create those "clutch" hitting situations.

Can you please Look into getting a less funny signature? That's sarcasm, btw. - Sharky

by rentz on Sep 2, 2007 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions

The problem with OPS
is that it combines two measures into one and by combining them into one you actually get less information than if you just looked at each separately. Slugging % is a wonderful stat and so is on-base %. Combine the two and you don't see just exactly what the player is effective at. Also, a significant portion of on-base percentage is in fact comprised of the same measures that comprise slugging %. It is much easier and better just to look at the entire stat and draw your conclusions from them. OPS really sucks in my opinion because it gives you no detail and because it has redundant qualities in the formula which often give misleading information.

Yeah, I don't get ...
The Red Sox fan hate. Just because its mostly bandwagoners showing up to the ballpark doesn't mean there are not tried and true fans who have been with the team since day 1 everywhere else. I know quite a few myself.

Why any Rangers fans would hate on a team we have no history with such as the Bosox over the Yankees, who we have plenty of (ugly) history with is beyond me.

yeah
but there's always a lot of bandwagoners showing up at any stadium.....

how many bandwagon fans popped up as "die hard fans", when UT won the title???? doesn't mean their fans are bandwagon pussies......they have great fans, the true ones.......

bottomline, the bandwagon fans shouldn't speak for the REAL fanbase....would you like it if the jackass who acts like the #1 fan in '09-'10 speaks for us when we start winning?..... and he hasnt been watching the decade+ before that????

I know you were agreeing with me, it's not really directed at you Mel lol......just felt like i had to further make my point, when billybob is gonna try and debate this somehow

They talk to so much shit
about the Rangers and when I am in the ballpark when the Red Sox are in town and they start doing that Youkilis, "youk", cheer at the ballpark and puts me over the edge.  And the complain about everything, oh we spent 70 million dollars on a right fielder, we should get Jermain Dye.  Oh the Rangers screwed us with Gagne, the Rangers are trying to sabotage are World Series run. Fuck them!

by BillyBobisdrunk on Sep 3, 2007 1:58 PM CDT up reply actions

And Slash, I know you were not aiming that at me and you were actually hammering my point home. There are tons of great Red Sox fans everywhere, but Rangers Ballpark is hardly the place to find a true sampling of those fans.

i just replayed it
went frame by frame and it's too hard to tell if he gets hit, but the ball did deflect away from laird.
so i'm going to assume it grazed his knee

last strike
it coulda gone either way, it was a close check swing if he checked it.

the home plate ump probably should have checked third base.

but i'll say he kept his wrists fairly locked but that bat sure went pretty far out front

Hank
Hank's grand slam will definately be one of the top highlights of an otherwise unhappy season.

by Randy Richardson on Sep 2, 2007 10:37 PM CDT reply actions

what in the hell
has been up with CJ??????

and hell yeah Hank........missed him a lot

by slash on Sep 2, 2007 10:59 PM CDT reply actions

BGL will be fine....
couple of bad breaks, chopper, and Vasquez should have been closer to the line on that double, oops triple (thank JHJ)......he will be ok, he was not going to go the rest of the season without giving up a run, still only one blown save....if he starts to look like Coco last April then I will worry!

W's in 7 of the last 8
and we took a series in Anaheim since I think 1978, or was it 1979? Well I know that they have had our # and it feels good to beat the damn Halo's....I do wish we would have hit someone after that bullshit Lackey pulled but oh well!

Oh and Fuck the rally monkey.......that is all, carry on.
