Joe Morgan
I...
"OPS doesn't tell you anything about what the player does for the team. Just that he gets on base and has some power. But it's just a number."
Wonderful insight Joe. After all, homers and RBIs and everythign else in baseball is just numbers as well. Let's just instead of actually playing a game, the two teams can come out on the field and argue about who has more team chemistry.
i disagree...
but, stats, no matter how impressive, don't really mean squat to me if your team's not winning... or at the very least playing good, consistant baseball...
i think he has a point when stating OPS is a poor measurement for clutch hitting.
by oc on Sep 2, 2007 9:00 PM CDT up reply actions
OPS
If guys dont get on base then you get a bunch of 1 run home runs. You need runners on base to create those "clutch" hitting situations.
The problem with OPS

They had 26 sacrifices in 1999, and were 10th in the A.L. in steals.
That team was clutch.

Laird
Yeah, I don't get ...
Why any Rangers fans would hate on a team we have no history with such as the Bosox over the Yankees, who we have plenty of (ugly) history with is beyond me.
BoSox
They are large exposure teams that you know about as a kid and used to be underdogs much like the rangers.
Then again there are few teams I just hate.
yeah
how many bandwagon fans popped up as "die hard fans", when UT won the title???? doesn't mean their fans are bandwagon pussies......they have great fans, the true ones.......
bottomline, the bandwagon fans shouldn't speak for the REAL fanbase....would you like it if the jackass who acts like the #1 fan in '09-'10 speaks for us when we start winning?..... and he hasnt been watching the decade+ before that????
I know you were agreeing with me, it's not really directed at you Mel lol......just felt like i had to further make my point, when billybob is gonna try and debate this somehow
They talk to so much shit
by BillyBobisdrunk on Sep 3, 2007 1:58 PM CDT up reply actions
Well, I am glad ...
And Slash, I know you were not aiming that at me and you were actually hammering my point home. There are tons of great Red Sox fans everywhere, but Rangers Ballpark is hardly the place to find a true sampling of those fans.
really???
Plus, if I were in an opponents ballpark, eccspecially with friends....I would be cheering for the rangers, im sure 90% of the posters would too.......
gagne / world series
i wouldnt doubt it
Anyone see the Angels baby giving the thumbs down?
I Know Language is Frowned Upon...
The game that made me really hate the M's
I was there. I don't think I went to another game for 4-5 years.

Wow.
Anyhow, I wasn't at that game but I can only imagine that must have been the most depressing Fourth of July fireworks display of all time.

I left
I remember being in my brother's raggedy-ass 10 year old Civic or something, and listening to the exploding as we were driving, and refusing to look because I was so mad.

Paul Sorrento's jack in the upper deck in the right field porch!!!
dear god.....i can't believe that
Or it mightve barely missed the upper deck to the
that Ranger lineup was pretty damn good
Makes me realize what a joke we run out there nowadays.
UhOh
Let's get six more runs.
Damnit.
Same thing.

what did hairston do? the stupid box score on yahoo sucks
Oh Christ.
Alright.
Now it's go time.
WHEW!!
am i the only one that thinks the cabrera hbb was bs?
i just replayed it
so i'm going to assume it grazed his knee
last strike
the home plate ump probably should have checked third base.
but i'll say he kept his wrists fairly locked but that bat sure went pretty far out front
