Don't really get why Toronto did this?

MLB is saying

They both have a complete no trade clause so they will have to waive it to get the deal done.

They have already both agreed to waive their no-trade clause. However, they need to pass physicals (Rolen for his shoulder and Glaus for his foot). I would bet that the Cards will send a little money Toronto's way.

No salary was exchanged...

according to the front article of espn.com.

One of those rare trades where teams truly aren't trading for now fo the future or the future for now. They're just straight up hoping each veteran third baseman fits their team better. Glaus agreed to his option so he has 2 years remaining while Rolen has 3.

But I'd think the main reason Rolen was traded was his fallout with management. Although some would argue Glaus is better going forward then Rolen. Odd trade IMO.
