No salary was exchanged...
One of those rare trades where teams truly aren't trading for now fo the future or the future for now. They're just straight up hoping each veteran third baseman fits their team better. Glaus agreed to his option so he has 2 years remaining while Rolen has 3.
But I'd think the main reason Rolen was traded was his fallout with management. Although some would argue Glaus is better going forward then Rolen. Odd trade IMO.
