OT: Applewhite to Texas?

"Sources" are reporting that Major Applewhite could be headed to UT to join Mack Brown's staff. I had a couple of classes with Applewhite when I was at UT. He is a very smart guy, and obviously knows football. I have been saying for a couple years (as have many others) that he will be Brown's replacement when Mack decides to retire. If this rumor is true, it would seem to be a precursor to such a move.

+1
Tennessee just fired Norm Chow. How about GD to Tennessee to work with Vince, we all saw how that worked out at Texas. And then Major to UT.

If Major
had taken this job about 3 years ago and excelled, he easily could have been a legitimate candidate for OC of the boys, assuming JG leaves.

Hopefully
he won't sleep with RBs girlfriends...

Major would be a great hire though. If the Cowboys don't sign him, i hope Texas does.

From OC in the SEC
to the RB's coach at texas. Seems like Saban ran another one off. I'm guessing he's in line for the OC job after Davis is out.
Jan. 7th LSU rises again!

yeah
i dont get it, going from the OC at bama to the rb coach at texas seems like a big step down in the career of a coach.
Either saban makes life hell for assistants, or theres a side agreement with applewhite.

Well...
Apparently Saban still had a major role in running the offense at Alabama. I don't know what Applewhite's job description will be at Texas if he takes the job, but he could have similar responsibilities. Also, you can't discout the possibility that Austin is just flat out where he wants to be.

austin
i'm sure most people would rather live in austin than alabama.

Saban
Everything I've heard is that he's a nightmare to work with.

From the LSU
players I've talked to who played for him, he knows his football but is an absolute monster to play for. Routinely made guys cry on the practice field and destroyed his assistants. He definitely has a big ego, I know that much.
The SEC now officially has to pay taxes on Ohio St.

And we know that
the only people Mack Brown makes cry are the alums by keeping Greg Davis around.  With Guy Morriss gone UT will now have the most unimaginative offense in the Big 12.

Applewhite Accepts...
Apparently he has accepted the position at UT, and it will be made official after 5pm tonight when the state required 5 day job posting expires. Well, it looks like Texas just hired their next head coach...

Assistants at Texas
The reason Texas is always able to hire assistants away from other programs, even when the position is equal to or a downgrade from the one already held by a coach (ex. Will Muschamp just a couple weeks ago) is because they pay their assistants VERY well, there is a ton of talent at Texas, and Austin as a city is hard to beat.  Also, a coordinator position at UT is a springboard to head coaching jobs elsewhere (Greg Robinson, Dick Tomey, etc.)
