Individual Game Tickets

OKay, some friends and I are looking to go to Yankee Stadium this summer and I went to the Yankees website and individual game tickets are not yet for sale.  You can go to Stubhub and get some but I was wondering if anyone knew when tickets will go on sale via the Teams websites or has stubhub taken over this process?

thanks for the help.

Also, any suggestions on how to get tickets to Yankee stadium and good places to sit or avoid in the stadium (in terms of view, etc).

Been there many times
Always like to sit on the third base side to watch the Yankees bench.  You never know what will happen in the dugout with the Yankees.  Tickets are always available for the right money.  My recomendation is set your budget and shop around.  I care less about the bucks and more about the seat location and the time it takes to get the seats I want.  I end up going the conciegre at the hotel I am staying at a few weeks before my trip and pay the premium to get what I want.  I unfortunately do not know when tickets actually go on sale.  Have a great trip and enjoy the stadium.

Tremendous experience
I agree with Bigfan above - if you have the $$, worth spending for the good seats.

Either way, go for the whole experience.  A few rec's:

  1.  Go to a day game.
  2.  Go early and tour monument park in CF - I think it's better than the Hall of Fame in some ways.  I get chills everytime I go out there - it's awesome.
  3.  If you can go to multiple games, spend one in the RF bleachers.  The "Bleacher Creatures" provide a completely different feel, and something to watch between innings.  Their "roll call" around the diamond is one of the most unique fan-player interactions in sports.
  4.  Take the subway.  The 4 train (from the East side of Manhattan) or the B or D trains (West side) drop you off right across the street.  If you take the D, make sure it's an express - the local train doesn't stop at the Stadium.  Don't worry - going 1-2 hours before a game, and immediately afterwards - the train is packed with game-goers and very safe.  Adds to the experience.  Plus a lot cheaper than a cab, and none of the hassles of driving.
  5.  Be careful wearing opposing team gear.  You can get away with it on field level (more expensive seats) but I'd be careful in the upper deck - and I definitely wouldn't do it in the bleachers.  You may be able to get away with a Rangers hat without issue (other than a "Rangers suck!" chant headed your way), but I've seen fights break out when a Red Sox fan walks in all decked out.
Bottom line - enjoy it.  It's a shame they're tearing the place down after the season - every baseball fan should see a game there, at Fenway, and at Wrigley.

Thanks guys
I'm planning on going this summer as well... I would be disappointed with myself as a baseball fan if I didn't make the trip before it's torn down.  If anyone else has any pointers they would be greatly appreciated.

I promise you....
said Red Sox hat does not exist.

Red Sox hats aside...
...i heard "Shadowboxin'" for the first time in years the other night...

i'm still convinced it's the greatest track RZA has ever produced.

thoughts?

tough call
Very good song (Any RZA/Method Man track rocks), but I'd be hard pressed to name the RZA's best production.  The amount of quality work this guy has put out is amazing.  Easily one of the most influential producers in rap.

I'm going too
Going to see the Yankees play the Devil Rays on the second day of the season then taking the train to Boston to see them get their WS rings (again).

I'm
sure that will be awesome from a baseball standpoint, but just thinking of that whole experience in Boston and NY makes my head hurt.  Are you from Wyoming?  Now that's a place I don't mind going--nobody around.  Very peaceful.

Actually
I'm both from and in Wyoming. Born, raised, educated and now work here. It's very peaceful here (but the recent batch of drifting snow is getting on my nerves). That's why my annual baseball junket is so fun - breaks up the peacefulness of my every-day life.

Oh I see
Well then I suppose I understand.  Frankly, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado and Arizona are in my top 5, while NY, NJ and Mass are in my bottom 5.  But hey--if you're tired of the snow, do you really want to go to the Northeast???

If you are going that far then
You MUST visit Coopertown.  FWIW I still get a chill everytime I visit the hall.  The village is a perfect setting for the great game.
Take the time, rent a car and enjoy a great 2 day trip to the Hall.

2 day trip
and don't let anyone tell you otherwise, it's at least a 2 day trip, quite a drive from NYC.

I plan on going this summer, too.
Does anyone have any recommendations for hotel hunting websites (or hotels) in the non-astronomical range.

I plan on taking the train up from D.C. and staying 2 nights, possible during the week.
