Depends...
And the early 1st pick should be held for EITHER a WR or RB. It depends if someone falls or not.
If Felix Jones falls to us, then we need to take him..
A guy I like for the 4th or 5th round is Dexter Jackson, remember that name.... He runs a 4.35 40....
I also like Marcus Monk from Arkansas...
My point is there is lots of depth of WR in this draft. We can get a really good WR in the second round.
But a Jonathon Stewart or Felix Jones doesn't come around all the time...

i think the Cowboys can afford to
I'd probably prefer a CB and a WR, but if a top RB or OL slips down, I'd definitely consider that.

O-Line...
While Colombo isn't great yet, you could argue that he's just entering his prime as a lineman when you consider how he was injured earlier in his career. He does struggle with quicker DE's, but I think he's pretty solid for a RT.

i think you could upgrade
I know the Cowboys have a couple of guys who haven't had the chance to play yet, but if you don't think too highly of them, you HAVE to get an OL who can be an impact player soon.

you sound like Jen Engel
But hey, we drafted defense in the first round last year, so we can't do it again? Even though it is blatantly obvious that this team desperately needs improvement in the secondary?
The Cowboys have put together an elite, championship caliber team and it just annoys the piss out of me to hear people say we have to draft offense, for no good reason other than we haven't done that lately. When a starting caliber CB and S are needed.

Cowboys need Defensive back
With Roy Williams and probably Anthony Henry gone, if there are players worth it they should draft at least 2 DB's with their first three picks. Our inability to cover has gone from bad to terrible over the last three years. It would be absolutely moronic to draft RBs and WRs with such a glaring need for speed and talent behind our good front seven.
Running backs are going to be plentiful in the upcoming draft so there is no need to take one in the first, especially when you can get a good back in the 2nd, 3rd or even 4th rounds. As for WR, unless its Randy Moss, they hardly make an impact their first season anyway...Also, 1st round wideouts have been as just a crapshoot as 1st round quarterbacks lately. Cowboys need to go secondary badly, RB then look for a true stud NT if they can find one.

Henry, I believe will be in the final year of his contract and barring a move to free safety may be let go as well...

Anthony Henry
We won't be able to unload Williams so thats out of the question.
And yes, this draft is deep but Jonathon Stewart and Felix Jones are backs you cannot pass on. They are special players.

It's hard to find
I don't think Williams is a bad enough player to just cut and I think that Keith Davis is similar enough to him that they might as well keep both (because Davis does so well on special teams). He drives me crazy to, but most teams fans have a problem with their SS's coverage skills.

running backs
Conversely, you can't find NFL starting CB anywhere but the first round. Sure every year 1 or two will be available in FA, but they cost a ton and every team trys to get them. At least one of the first rounders needs to be a CB, and it wouldn't bother me at all if the other was a safety. This team has a glaring, immediate hole, no reason not to toss some resources at it and get it fixed.

thoughts
stecker - hasnt always been bad, but hidden behind reggie <sarcasm> "the savior" </sarcasm> bush and duce
graham - the dude had how many carries/game he started?
watson - was a 2nd or 3rd rd back. not off the scrap heap. was expected to replace rudi, just not this year.
fargas - kinda pisses me off that he was included. always has had talent, always. finally quit getting hurt though
MBIII was a steal and everyone knows it. and "really good seasons" - id take julius jones over grant/stecker(had like 2 good games)/graham and probably watson. but id probably rather have fargas.
yea, these guys had ok seasons, btu how many of them are expected to do as well next year?
who would you rather have? a top RB or a top CB?LT or Champ Bailey? adrian peterson or newman? honestly, is there even a question?

for this team
The CB would improve the one big weakness on the team, the RB would send a strength of the team to the bench.

yup
as long as the cowboys are going to try using a 2 back system then they shouldnt use a really high pick on a rb unless someone amazing just falls to them. and knowing the cowboys if someone great falls they will just trade the pick.

I would rather..
Anyways, the beauty of having 2 picks in the first round is that they could take a CB with their #22 and then a RB with their #27-#32. That's what I would prefer, and it seems like there's quite a bit of late first round (20-40) talent in CB and RB this year. I'd like to see them go WR with their 3rd pick, even if they have to trade up to get someone they like. They took a QB from Washington last year in Isiah Stanback, but he was recovering from an injury for the first part of the year (plantar fasciitis). It sounds like he's developing well, but we'll have to see. Apparently, he's got blazing speed. Some of the last first round names:
RBs: Mike Hart, Felix Jones, Jonathan Stewart, Jamaal Charles,
CBs: Leodis McKelvin (Troy), Aqib Talib (Kansas), Charles Godfrey (Iowa), Tracey Porter (Indiana)
WRs: DeSean Jackson, Limas Sweed, Early Doucet, Malcom Kelly, Adarius Bowman (OK State)

CB: If Talib is there with our first pick I'd be all over that, after that I like Reggie Smith
WR: I'm not as high on DeSean as everyone else... his punt returns would help, but I'm much more interest in Doucet, Kelly and Bowman
