Wednesday a.m. things
T.R. Sullivan has a new Around the Horn up, featuring the outfield, and providing some stats to help illustrate exactly how bad the Rangers' outfield production has been this century.
Sullivan says that the Rangers are looking at a Byrd/Hamilton/Bradley starting outfield, and while that's the best defensive outfield they've had in a long time, I don't think Byrd's bat is going to be good enough for him to play every day in left field.

Damn,
The outfield, yes, is great defensivly. Byrd probably wont be a hitting machine. So why again isn't Murph at least platooning with him in left? Did no one besides me see that he has some serious potential? We don't need HR slappy happy players anymore. And I'm suprised Wash isn't in love with him. Singles and doubles are his specialty, in the short glimpse I got from him last season.
Fourth outfielder, yes. But he should get a fair shot at left because Byrd is also a good fourth outfielder.

the Murph will ..
get plenty of at bats J J. I'm not worried about that. As Evan Grant said in the past "David Murphy is a perfect match for Rudy Jaramillo". He will continue to get better and better.

JMJ
So, is J.D. thinking about putting Mayberry at OKC and telling him to make us want to call you up? I don't think of AA as a "challenge" in the way J.D. sounds like he's using it here and with Boggs later in the article.

FWIW
I hope Main starts out in Clinton. Beaven then could move into Main's rotation spot when he moves up to Bakersfield. (I know, I am being overly optimistic.)
I think JMJ starts in Frisco with a quick call up to OKC.

What no BGR?
Main has the chance to be converted to an outfielder if he doesn't pan out. Either way, he is the star of that class.
Kiker, I feel, has the best shot at being dominant. A classy guy who works hard and has all the right stuff to succeed. We might see him sooner than 2011.
Harrison and Hurley we should see be the end of the year.
That being said, I would love to see this rotation right now, BGR, BGL, Hurley, Harrison, and Gabbard. Stellar if you ask me.
And I'm sorry BGL for writing you into the top five but you are the best pitcher we have right now. You should be starting even though you look awesome coming out of the pen.

I'm not sure
Check his stats.
He's a career .313/.409/.593 hitter. That's an OPS north of 1.000. I mean... DAMN, that's incredible. He's one of the truly great hitters of our generation. He has a career ops+ of 154. Last year he had a horrible year by his standards and still nearly had a .900 ops.
Look, I love Milton Bradley. If you go back and check my comments you'll see he was the guy I wanted to go after all off season as a COF (although most people around here only remember my obsession with Corey Patterson as a BORP/CF-option). But he's simply not in Man-Ram's class as a hitter.
Check Bradley's stats. He's the kind of guy who's a threat to hit .300/.400/.500, which is very good, and certainly better than anything we've gotten out of our OF in a long time.
But it ain't Manny.
You're comparing an all-star to a no-doubt HOF'er, imo.

I think most of us understand what he means and maybe don't agree but we choose not to browbeat the f@ck out of him like you you evil little bit of work. I don't agree with his Bradley/Ramirez comparisons but he has that right to debate anything he wants to on here. You don't have to read his posts if you don't want to. I've been avoiding yours for ages now :) So why don't you just relax for once in your life and stop trying to be the damn blog warden. You're not perfect trust me not even close. Really? Let me tell you the problem. Guys like you only see everything out of one eye. R U following? Open up the other eye. You still there? Okay read my statement again. It says I feel like we have our version of manny.
No I didn't look at stats. I based that on my personal thoughts. The way that I view Bradley. Is that wrong to think that way? You would say yes because you see my statement as being total false due to stats. Im I correct?
So next time you want to bitch about the way I feel about something due that. Do what Dirk did and give me some stats. Don't be like the other bitches on here that get off by making stupid ass assumtions about me. Okay, troll?

Its a fair statement
He was saying Bradley has the potential to put up those numbers in a season not for his career. And he is correct in that statement.
2003 .321/ .421/ .501
2007 .306/ .402/ .545
Yes he was injured last year and has been throughout his career but it is accurate to say that Bradley could put up numbers comparable to Manny Ramirez. Will he...probably not....but he could and if he does he will be a great addition to the club.

A Nate Silver Tidbit
"jromero (Seattle): What's PECOTA's take on the players Cincy and Texas swapped? (Josh Hamilton is one; can't recall the pitcher's name who came to Cincy.) Thanks!
Nate Silver: Well, PECOTA's quite optimistic on Hamilton, but that's one of those cases where PECOTA can't really tell you much of anything. There's no precedent to go on and barely even a decent sample size's worth of data, and he gets a good projection because what data we do have on him is good. Still, though, I think that was a fairly dubious trade by the Reds."
This is good news, eh?

They'd probably ask for Teagarden
He's not a good fit for us at all, so I'm not interested at all.
But if he's on the block some team will trade for him and end up overpaying for a guy who posted a sub-4 ERA and a 113 ERA+, but had very shaky peripherals (1.51 WHIP, 87 bb in only 156 ip, and doesn't K very many).
But he's a young left-handed pitcher who's had some success at the big league level, so someone will pay for him if he's available.

Well
He's an incredible talent, but his size and his violent arm action have led some to theorize he's prone for a big break down.
There's been some sentiment that the Giants should deal him now, at the apex of his value.
I think they keep him and build around him and Cain.
I'm just saying it's not preposterous to think he could dealt.

I had seen rumors..
I read an article on Lincecum last year about how he never ices his arm. It mentions how his dad blames most pitching injuries on shitty teaching by pitching coaches at all levels. Apparently, they both have been studying tape of him (Lincecum) since he started pitching to prevent injury.

Ditto...
But those just turned out to be rumors though... everything I've read lately says he's staying put. Which is too bad, really... if the Giants offered me Lincecum for Hurley, Teagarden and maybe a third prospect like German Duran or Engel Beltre, I'd do that deal. Hurley is gonna be good, but not as good as Lincecum will be... and Teagarden and Duran are currently blocked by Salty and Kinsler.

Never ices his arm
Not comping the two, obviously.
I've seen several breakdowns of Lincecum's mechanics that say they're basically perfect... but they still make people nervous just cause his arm moves so damn fast. Nothing you can really do about that. People will be talking about how he's one pitch away from TJ surgery his entire career.

Never seen one of Chris-John
If you're interested in that sort of thing (like I am) he breaks down guys in a similar fashion semi-regularly for TheHardBallTimes.
Here's a link to his archive. Carlos Zambrano, Peavy, Phil Hughes, Cain... he does quite a few, and they're all interesting reads, though he can come off sort of know-it-all-ish at times.
I wish things like that were available back when I was having trouble with my pitching mechanics back in high school. I still would've sucked, but maybe a little less so:)

I wish there was more of that from the heavyweights. The ESPN's and the like. They have the resources to hire people with genuine insight into the game, and can provide those people with the means to disseminate that knowledge to us in impressive and interesting ways.
But when I watch baseball tonight I always seem to end up hearing shit like John Kruk and Steve Phillips debating, "Who's the grittier SS, Eckstein or Jeter?"
I feel like I'm getting dumber every time I turn that show on.
