NFL/Cowboys

Welp, three of the five brain surgeons (Berman, Ditka, Keyshawn) on ESPN picked the Cards today. Line is Dallas -4.5. The Giants and Skins have virtual walkovers today, so it would be very nice to win.

I'm a little fascinated with what the Raiders do against the Saints today. Do they lose by 4 TDs by throwing it deep every play?

Always picks against the Cowboys.

And now for the “Nobody cares about your fantasy team” question of the week:

I had the following 4 running backs: LT, Forte, Turner and Ronnie Brown

Which two should I have started?

I am the motherfucking shore patrol, motherfucker! I am the motherfucking shore patrol! Give this man a beer.

Good grief

Four of the top eight ranked teams are from the Big 12 South. Four of the top eight teams in a six team division, has that ever happened at any point?

Overall, 6 of the top 16 for the league. The SEC is down to 4 of the top 20 (2, 5, 10.,13).

by Brett Perryman on Oct 12, 2008 12:49 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

historically, IMO

big 12 has always been underrated and the SEC has always been overrated.

Think it might take

a loss this week to convince Jerry?

by Brett Perryman on Oct 12, 2008 1:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jerry is a smart man

he knows the defense is not that good, he needs to get as many weapons on the offensive side and Roy is perfect to take the doubles away from TO…

This is a no-brainer for me, give away a late 1st rounder for him…we’re stocked with picks next year anyways…

TO is old, won’t play much longer…what are we going to do, wait till free agency? Draft? We need an impact WR now and for the future, and with Detroit coming out saying they are wanting/wiling to trade Roy, this is Jerry’s best opportunity to get him…and probably not for THAT much…

My concern at this point

is exactly what you’d get out of him for this season. His role at the moment probably wouldn’t be terribly complicated, but the history of WRs obtained during the season isn’t too hot.

Chambers is kind of a convenient memory

since he’s the exception and basically a best case scenario, but yeah, he at least would give me hope that you could integrate a veteran deep threat guy into this offense – which is obviously pretty similar – very quickly. I’d still be concerned about it, though.

And since the Super Bowl season...

…which was 6 years ago, they’ve won a total of 20 games.

They are a trainwreck of a franchise. As big of a clown as Jerry Jones is, at least he’s better than Al Davis.

by Adam J. Morris on Oct 12, 2008 2:02 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep

I still fear that Davis is the inevitable eventuality of Jerry, once Jerry has dementia set in like Al has, so I definitely am empathetic.

by Brett Perryman on Oct 12, 2008 2:02 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

On the plus side...

…Jerry has Stephen around, and Stephen Jones, from what I’ve seen/heard, is pretty sensible and reasonable.

by Adam J. Morris on Oct 12, 2008 2:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

but what do you do if you’re Stephen and Jerry Jr and Jerry’s gone crazy? Think about how stubborn he is and how determined he’s always been to run the team. I’d have to think that a Jerry who’s lost his scruples isn’t morem likely to hand over control to his kids or anyone else. Maybe Jean could step in.

A handful of plays to back that assertion up. He’s still a rookie, and I don’t really feel that the Cowboys have to completely rely on Felix Jones in order to win.

Brad Sham just said

that the Cardinals have thoroughly dominated this first quarter. It is 7-0 because of a KO return, and yards are even. Can we please calm down a little?

by boomer1 on Oct 12, 2008 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well

If you accept that momentum plays a role, then Arizona really has dominated.

Now, I suppose the argument could be made that Dallas has sucked more than Arizona has dominated.

by brettgardner on Oct 12, 2008 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Their momentum

is solely based on the KO return giving them the lead and being at home. They have done no more on offense than Dallas.

by Brett Perryman on Oct 12, 2008 4:00 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fair enough.

But if the two offenses cancel each other out, then certainly the touchdown, combined with the quick turnover turnaround are enough for a team with little expectations to gain a significant amount of momentum.

Why even turn it into a low percentage long pass??

I just assume they saw something that they thought they could break a long play, and it didnt work out, but that’s disappointing.

I knew Romo wouldnt convert that 3rd down

After taking that huge hit the prior play, he was rattled.

Sometimes I wonder if teams shouldnt have a 2nd QB at the ready to trot in for plays like that or something.

OK

1. I’m beginning to think this OL is really overrated, but hopefully they just played a bad game.
2. Is it just me or did anyone else think Garret called too many plays where the receivers ran deep routes and Romo didn’t have time to throw deep? The OL sucked it up big time, but shouldn’t Garret call a slant or some different screen plays other than a RB screen?

by jcir454 on Oct 12, 2008 7:16 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

1. The O-Line is overrated. It’s still good, but it has trouble protecting against quick pass rushers and staying fresh for a whole game. Do you remember the Raiders of the Rich Gannon era? They had a huge, powerful o-line. It was very good, but it had a huge weakness: mobile pass rushes. Jason Taylor raped them in the regular season in ‘02, and that’s what led me to expect the Bucs to do the same with Simeon Rice in the Super Bowl.

Our line is just like that. It’s good. It’s big and strong. It gets a great forward push, but it tires out and lacks any sort of mobility. I’d feel much more comfortable with a line in the Colts or Broncos breed.

2. There were way too many slow developing plays. That may have been on Garret, I’ll bet it was, or it may have been on Romo holding the ball to long. Which isn’t really his weakness, so I lean towards Garret.

The Cardinals have SUCKED covering downfield this season, and clearly the Cowboys wanted to exploit that. But, just as clearly, the Cardinals shored that up and the Cowboys failed to adjust most of the game and adapt to the fact that the Cardinals knew what their game plan would be.

Cowboys fans are babies

Seriously wtf, you should have heard the doom and gloom from the callers to the postgame..and the host..

we’re actually 4-2…

maybe people need to get a taste of what a actual bad team looks like..like the many around the nfl that cant sniff 4-2..or the cowboys 2-3 years ago..sheesh.

just like people whining about airline service is far, far worse and more of a problem than the actual problem by a factor of at least 10..
