Did we ever figure out which of these guys sounds like James Woods?

I know it was discussed in the last thread, but did we ever figure out who it was?

Also, one of the other guys sounds like Ernest Borgnine at times.

Local channel in socal

Channel 56 used to air reruns of the A team, Airwolf, even Knight Rider from when I was 10 to about 12. I used to love those old shows more than anything else on TV (well, Airwolf and the A team anyway).

I have to believe if they get good again they’ll be popular yet again.

I would imagine Blue Jays-Marlins would be pretty bad.

Hoping someone would say that...

It may be great as Rangers fan but from a national point of view the Rangers are pretty bleh. Although the Hambone factor would weigh in if it’s right now.

by hinduplaya on Oct 14, 2008 8:31 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ok guys this is an exercise in futility.

Any WS not involving the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Cardinals or Mets is a terrible WS when it comes to the nation wide impact.

And I seriously can’t believe Roy Williams is a freakin’ Dallas Cowboy! Woah.

by TxStCa on Oct 14, 2008 8:31 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Why

Does it have to be two of baseballs “elite” or “classic” teams in the WS for it to be a good WS? I don’t get that. If you’ve got two good teams, you should have a good series. One of the problems with the baseball media is they cover certain teams way too much while totally neglecting the others. The way I look at it, a series like a Rays/Phils matchup could be a godsend, as it might force them to change that a bit.

I wasn’t saying that is what I believe, I was saying it is the reality with the likes of the baseball media.

by TxStCa on Oct 14, 2008 8:35 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That's what I thought

I’m talking out loud more than anything.

To expand a bit on my point, if you have one or two “unknown” teams in the WS, you also have the potential to pull in another base of entirely new fans and watchers. Yeah, you may not get the entire Yankee or Red Sox nation tuned in but you’d spark a whole lot of new interest in someplace like Tampa… or, someday maybe Dallas.

Agreed. I might argue they’ve taken what the Rays do and have done it even better. Partly because, with all do respect to the Beane Man, they’re run by people who actually came from Wall Street and are educated in market analysis and exploiting inefficiencies.

While Beane is a smart guy, and has surrounded himself with smart people, he’s a former ball player and doesn’t come from the same pedigree as the Rays’ front office.

Obviously the Sox have been more successful than Oakland, but they’ve had astronomical payrolls. They Rays have done it closer to the source.

by philkid3 on Oct 14, 2008 8:47 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And the best thing is

the Rays have walked right into Fenway and punched the entire Northeast right in the jaw. One day, it will be the Rangers with Hamilton, Kinsler, Texas Tea, Davis (maybe), Feliz, Holland, Andrus, Borbon, and on and on and on leading the way.

I am fairly confident that the Red Sox are going to sweep. They are 3 outs away with Papelbon about to come on from taking Game 1. I just think the Red Sox have a better overall team and like I said, I like experience over talent.

How am I biased if I am confident in my team? I do not understand.

by philkid3 on Oct 14, 2008 9:46 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Mike Timlin means nothing to this team. Seriously he brings nothing positive to the table. You knew 100% what was going to happen when he entered the game. I would rather have had Paul Byrd to be honest pitching. The only reason why Timlin was in the game is because they ran out of pitchers. And the only reason Timlin is even on the roster is so he can pitch in blowout games, so even if he gives up 4-5 runs it won’t even matter, that way the more effective relievers won’t have to pitch when the game doesn’t matter. Unfortunately he was forced to pitch tonight.

This was the type of game that the home team was going to win. If this game was at Fenway.. the Sox woulda won.

by philkid3 on Oct 14, 2008 9:47 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Rocco Baldelli coming back from tragic illness to hit a home run in the playoffs is insignificant. . .

. . . because it’s Paul Byrd. Anybody can hit a home run off Byrd. I could hit a home run off Byrd.

This one is the absolute best.

I’m still confident that the Red Sox can win this series. I mean honestly they face Andy Sonnanstine tomorrow. He is their worst pitcher, he doesn’t have good stuff at all. I would be SHOCKED if the Red Sox don’t knock him around tomorrow. He’s a good pitcher for Ellsbury and Ortiz to break out of their pathetic slumps against. So, basically, what I’m saying, is the Red Sox have a PERFECT chance to even the series tomorrow, with Game 5 still to be at home. Sonnanstine is mediocre at best.. has nothing overpowering.. anything short of an offensive explosion against him will be unacceptable. Tim Wakefield certainly knows the importance of this game, and he has done good against TB in his career so look for him to come up big. He’s pitched in some pretty big games before too (2003 ALCS Game 1 and 4), and the 1993 NLCS. He hasn’t pitched in a while so he has had some pretty good rest, his last 2 regular season starts were solid so hopefully he’ll continue where he left off. Certainly the Red Sox know what they have to do to win, this team is just too professional and experienced to drop two straight league championship games in a row at home. They were one of the best home teams in major league baseball this season, another reason to believe they’ll win tomorrow.

Some of them

Others I collect from around the internet. This particular one isn’t one of my originals.

I'm not sure

I just liked the caption, and I haven’t found a better picture to match it to yet.

Is it just me

or is the gun TBS is using juiced?

Garza was throwing 96 consistently the other night, and Edwin Jackson just came in throwing 99. I know it’s possible that everyone is just all jazzed up for the playoffs (and also that EJ went all out since it’s a short relief appearance), but are they really this jazzed up?

It just means

that when they’re airing our playoff game, they’ll have Feliz hitting 105. I’m cool with that :)

You know

Canadian TV has some pretty damn funny commercials. A helluva lot better than the majority of our commercials.

I think he’s got Franklyn German disease: walkacitis.

And Drew swinging

Welp… the Rays still have to close it out Thursday. The Sox have Dice-K, Beckett and Lester lined up for the final three games, as needed – the Rays still can’t afford to let them prolong the series like the Indians did last year.

Those suits always have me thinking that he has to be openly gay

But looking at his wikipedia page, it would seem it’s exactly the opposite.

There's not a gay man alive who would be caught wearing that shit.

Dressing flamboyantly fabulous = gay guy.

Dressing flamboyantly horrible = sad pathetic shtick from a talentless reporter trying to carve out a niche in a tough marketplace.

kinda had a feeling

the rays were going to get to the world series just to add to the rangers futility. so what does that make it only us and the expos/nationals that have never played in the series? all 4 exapansion franchises that came in in the 90’s will have been there too.

Check out some of the numbers PECOTA projected for Justin Verlander:

205 IP
31 GS

Now check out his B-R page.

I made an error. He actually gave up 18 HR. He was projected to give up, I think, 21.
