2008 Organizational Review MLB.com

MLB.com is doing their  MLB team  minor league reviews with the Rangers being released today.

They cover the Rangers Players of the year with the preseason and current picks, and the some of the major movers in the minor league system. They also have a 2007 draft recap as well.

LINK

Interesting read that doesnt cover any where as much information you get here, but interesting to see the view of a relative outsider instead of  the our everday sources

Ouch!

Could you please edit your title to “Organizational Review” ? Not being a spelling nazi here, but ‘origin’ says a whole different thing, and it’s the title! Sorry to be a pest.

Originzational v. organizational. Nope, not a typo.

Nothing pithy here. Please move long.

By the way

Do appreciate you posting it. I honestly don’t go to mlb.com or espn.com for Rangers news (not sarcasm) so I wouldn’t have seen it.

Nothing pithy here. Please move long.

x

Which is why Davis didn’t win Most Awesome Rookie EVAR award. It’s rare.

Main

A general question: for all the anticipation he’s now generating, why was he drafted so low in the first?

Go Strangers.

I think the short answer is...

…he’s a RHP who isn’t very big. And he missed most of his junior season with rotator cuff problems.

I know Keith Law had him ranked around 10-12, I think, heading into the draft.

AND no one was sure if he was a CF or a pitcher

Some of the college pitchers moved ahead of him, since his season ended before their's

and it wasn’t as clear whether his development would be as a pitcher or an OFer.

Go Rangers!

Position

Yeah, I think it was a big question over what position he would settle into, as well. Some teams viewed him as a center fielder, but had others ranked ahead of him on their board.

which is strange that he dropped

because I believe he was considered one of the top OF in that draft too. It looks sort of like teams just passed on Main since they weren’t 100% sure on what route they wanted him to take even though he was likely to excel at either one.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Lot of the original mocks

had Atlanta taking him at 14, i think.
