The miles curse strikes again
Miles thinks Reyshawn Terry is a beast.
So what happens?
This is getting scary. I'm ready for miles to proclaim that the 2009 Rangers suck, Ian Kinsler and Josh Hamilton have peaked, Brandon McCarthy will never be any good, Feliz and Holland are the new Kurt Miller and Hector Fajardo, and Chris Davis strikes out too much to be effective.

Miller and Fajardo
Come on….there is NO WAY Miles has any idea who those guys are.

Oh, the curse is real.
But for some reason Miles only uses his powers for evil. If Miles wants to end this curse all he has to do is say the Rangers will suck very very hard next year. If they do, no more talk of the curse. If they don’t and somehow make the playoffs… Scary stuff.

Just keep an eye on Elvis Andrus
IIRC, Miles is on record as saying Elvis will be a bust… which should of course mean he’ll be our starting shortstop by 2010. In which case I will begin efforts to brainwash Miles into becoming an Angels fan, so we can win the division in 2011.

Seahawks RB Julius Jones reportedly unleashed a sideline rant, calling out coach Mike Holmgren, towards the end Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.

you need to recognize
that hes not even the best RB on his team and will lose his reps to morris sooner than later.

maybe
and i can’t speak for everybody, but i never said barber was the back of the future. injury problems aside, i’m glad they kicked jones to the curb for felix

THIRD best back?
i can see an arguement for felix but again who is a better pass blocker, etc
im not saying JJ is a scrapheap player but … hes not better than barber. barber, who gets rave reviews from almost every commentator out there or jones, who blows up at his coach on the sidelines and will lose reps to maurice morris over the next few weeks

To me
this is the most ponderous and interesting topic when it comes to the Mavs, at lest since the late 90’s. When Don Nelson came here, he made a bunch of moves that did not pan out, the Mashburn and Jackson deals netting virtually nothing, really, and in the Nets deal cost them a good player in Cassell. His picks were not too hot, Anstey, etc. Then Donnie came over, and together they turned picks into Nowitzki and Nash, they later draft Howard, and they turned basically nothing into assets like Jamison, and even upon losing Nash for nothing they turned those manufactured assets into Terry and Harris. Then Nellie leaves, they have a decent season, and they do make a nice add in Diop, but as they have success in 2005-2007, they to almost nothing to add assets. At the same time, and this is where things get a little subjective, but I think that it’s pretty clear that Avery gained a lot of leverage with Cuban and used it. Additions tended to be almost exclusively older circle, triangle and square pegs that Avery thought he needed to plug in his perceived circular, triangular and square holes. He was basically allowed to make the first round pick, Ager, the draft after their finals appearance, and, yes, that too followed his pattern, because he needed someone that size to guard “the Dwayne Wade” types.
I think that it’s pretty clear that Donnie took a back seat, and I think that anyone can see Avery’s way of thinking at work if they look at the picture. So did Donnie start sucking? Hasn’t he been pretty darn good here, even while dealing with an owner who wants to be in the middle of personnel calls, until Avery took power? Or was it all Nellie? And if you think that, how do you explain that Nellie didn’t really do anything until Donnie was here, especially considering that both Dirk and Nash were Donnie motivated moves?
The fact that he appears to have been on board with the Kidd trade concerns me quite a bit, but of course Cuban has made it clear that things were in pretty awful shape by that time last year. I’m not sure that Shawne WIlliams (a Carlisle target) or Gerald Green can really play, but he did find Bass last year, and it’s just nice to see them add some guys who could actually be assets and grow the roster, rather than who are one year stop-gap types who can barely walk.

Well...
You have to be careful not to undersell Diop and Bass. Those were scrap heap players, that no team wanted. Donnie targeted them and now they’re quality, valuable rotation players, and Bass has potential to be even more than that.
I don’t think there’s ANY question that the move toward aging, veteran players was Avery motivated.
And while I would probably undo it if given the choice, I just don’t think you can look at the Kidd trade as the kind of negative that it makes you question the credentials of your GM. If they struggle to make the playoffs this season then maybe, but I believe very strongly that that is not going to happen.
Green is going to be a solid rotation player for the Mavs this season. I feel like that’s going to be another notch on Donnie belt. And regardless of whether Shawn Williams ever does anything, getting a mid 22 y/o mid 1st round pick for the package they gave up is an absolute no brainer. At worst he becomes an expiring contract at an ideal value to fill out a trade next season.
Now, weird little contract like a three year guranteed deal to Barea and a two year (player option) deal to George give me pause, but when you take the entire picture into account, and if you believe Nellie when he tells you that Dirk and Nash were Donnie’s babies (and as Z pointed out, the moves leading up to Donnie joining the organization seem to back that up) you have to conclude that Donnie is a quality GM, imo).
Avery didn't know
squat about ager, or the eligible players, and Ager was the consensus BPA; Donnie and staff were runnin’ the show and not Avery. Also, A team hitting on a player after 15 in the nba draft is a rare occurrence so whoever you draft is likely not going to make it. As for blaming avery for picking up older players, it seems senseless to suggest that this was not a sensible approach for a team that just missed a world championship. The principle problem was the team’s commitment to Jet as a starting caliber 2G and the persistence of the same old problem for the mavs: they needed another swing player to play with josh, who could shoot and play shut down defense. This is something they still don’t have. And once again the mavs will see the “2G by committee” approach thwarting any chance at a ring.
Alright...
I will hold on my opinion of Donnie Nelson for one year. But if at this time next year were still running the same shit out, I won’t cut Donnie a break.
Just read something i really liked
Stackhouse’ contract is only partially guaranteed next year for 2 mil.
and this
/ 2010-11 is not guaranteed, but can become fully guaranteed if he meets certain performance standards during the term of his contract
Wonder what those are..
Isn't this post supposed to be rec'd up?
According to my model of posts about miles, it should have about 20 rec’s by now. Maybe everyone is putting it on their facebook or “Buzz up!”’ing it…
I just clicked the buzz up...
because I had no f’n clue what the hell it was. I apparently gave it a vote though which I’m disappointed in.

Hey Adam... Don't forget
Miles did have Milton Bradley is the MVP in the community projections. He was pretty much right on that.

you should get the LSB CP Gold award for picking Bradley as the MVP. Cause nobody thought he’d have a Rangers MVP year. Hell, I know I damn sure didn’t think he would/
