Yeah, several omissions...

He left out Byrd, who was better than Soriano this past year, and he probably should have counted by Cruz and Murphy, since they were never both active. You also have to deduct a little from DeRosa, whose WARP as a full-time RF’er would be lower than as a 2B (which is where he spent most of this season), and from Gonzalez, who wasn’t as good a hitter as Bradley this year, but is getting more WARP points for playing 1B rather than DH.

He also omitted Feldman and Harrison from the Daniels rotation, which would make it better.

The difference isn’t nearly as great as that little demo suggests.

On the bright side

At least this isn’t a NASCAR rain delay.

If it where a NASCAR rain delay, they’d go around interviewing every stinking driver and crew chief for 2-3 hours while the guys in the broadcast booth crack lame jokes. Somehow, since you likely have nothing better to do, you find yourself sitting there through the entire ordeal waiting for the rain to stop and the track to dry, only to find they’d finally decided they’re not going to race that day and are rescuduling the event on some obscure cable channel for the next day.

With the World Series, they at least have enough respect for the vewer to at least go to some sitcom reruns to provide some semblance of entertainment (although I admit, I’d rather watch COPS than “Till Death”).

Apparently, Bud thinks they're still going to play tonight:

Linky

“We’re going to play baseball tonight,” commissioner Bud Selig said at 8 p.m., about a half-hour before Tampa Bay and Philadelphia were scheduled to begin. The Rays and Phillies were tied at one game each.

“The front is going through. We have three different weather services, and we’ve been talking to them all day,” he said.

Baseball officials thought the rain would let up to allow a start at about 9:15 p.m., but estimates kept getting moved back. The National Weather Service said the rain was to taper off after midnight.

20th Annual Warehouse Halloween Party tonight

In full-on Joker outfit…long purple coat I scrounged at a resale shop, wacky shirt, ugly yellow tie, and some neat old worn out brown leather shoes. Of course, I will be in full makeup, scars, green hair and all. I’ll try to get some cool pictures to post online.

I was really hoping for a rain-out, cause I’m gonna miss the game.

Geez

Moyer’s strike zone seems to be juuust a tad bit larger than Matt Garza’s. All those FOX goons could talk about at the start of the game was how important it was for Moyer to get calls on the the corners… it’s almost like they knew he’d be getting the corners handed to him on a platter.

Also...

The reason why I learned to type so fast (I type about 100 wpm) is because, as a kid, I would go buy those books of BASIC game programs and sit at the computer and type them in, since I never had the money to go buy real games.

Sitting there day after day, typing line after line of BASIC code (and knowing you have to go back and try to find the typos if it doesn’t work right) is a great why to learn to type.

by Adam J. Morris on Oct 25, 2008 10:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Haha

I did that, too. My favorite was the one that played "The Mexican Hat Dance’ and had an ASCII hat jumping up and down on the screen.

Since ours had no disk drive or hard drive, I had to type in the entire program every time I wanted to see it. I was probably eight or nine, so it took me HOURS.

Moyer's gotten every call he needed tonight

And the Rays lineup sat up there anf flailed at all the pitches he wanted them to. Just a pathetic showing by the Rays offensively tonight.

Rays

I know the Rays were a good defensive team this year, but they have been awful in the postseason. And Navarro has had about 3 or 4 passed balls where he hasn’t even been close.

I don’t think they’ll get out of this inning before someone hits a sac fly or an RBI groundout.

+1

I’m headed off to watch some Simpsons and fall the F asleep finally.

I’ll TIVO Sportcenter and hope they give a good replay of the play… which I’m sure they won’t. They’ll devote 47 minutes to the game, but at least 80% of it will be John Kruk making ambiguously positive statements about the players’ character.
