Top R/L SP duos
I always post something that has already been posted. I looked around but could not find this so...
http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/ask-ba/2008/267092.html
It has Price/Davis as the #1 combo (I'm not so sure that Price/me wouldn't be the best L/R combo) and has Holland/Feliz at #2, fitting in nicely just ahead of the A's duo of Anderson/Cahill.

Kinda nice
to be above that Oakland duo and no shame to be behind Price and Davis.

(considering only one pair per organization):
Wonder where Main/Perez would be..
He also goes on to answer a question about Mitch Moreland..

MWL observers noted his arm strength and wondered what he would look like if he focused on pitching. The Rangers had him do just that in instructional league—he wasn’t going to gain much from further hitting instruction—and he showed a 90-93 mph fastball and an average slider. As a bonus, he’s a lefthander.

being that he is a southpaw
I’d probably stick him in the Hickory bullpen next year and develop him as a pitcher.
What would you ask Nolan Ryan: "... as a former pitcher, what would you think about having a useless lug standing out there behind you."
Then I'd tell him that useless lug’s name is Michael Young. -- lonestarJesus

Main / Perez
that duo would at least have to be considered for the top 10, right?

If Perez gets consideration as a better prospect than Holland
I don’t see how they could not be considered..

I think
that they definitely warrant a top 10 status however it would seemingly be difficult to place them. I would probably slot them right behind Matusz/Tillman. I just have this feeling that Perez is going to force his way to High A next year. Additionally, I am excited that it seems like all of our best pitchers have terrific attitudes and seem to work extremely hard. Arguably, our top pitchers are Main, Feliz, Holland, and Perez. I havent heard anything but glowing reports about their personalities, etc. Makeup is not a problem which is a plus.

Perez
I don’t see there being anyway he makes it to HA next season. I think the rangers have no problem being aggressive with guys especially their young ones but I don’t see an 18 year old going to the Cal league. Maybe once they move to the east coast and out of Bakersfield possibly but with that place being so conducive to hitters I don’t think you put someone that young out there and risk them losing their pshycy(sp?). They rushed Poveda out there when he was 18 and he got lit up. Had to redo Low A for a full year afterwards. I think once he gets to HA then maybe the accelerator gets pushed and he makes it to AA in a half season or more.

Good points
however with all due respect to Poveda I think that Perez is even more of a special talent. I dont think he will spend an extended amount of time there however I do believe that he will get at least a start or two there next year. We will see….
Btw, it is “psyche” :-)

I knew that looked weird
And I agree that comparing Poveda and Perez isn’t a good comp. But I also look at who is going to be in HA, whos gonna be in AA, and whos gonna be with Perez in LA. It may be a case where there simply isn’t any room to promote a guy. Plus I think NeRa will be the first guy from Hickory to get the call to HA. And I think Murphy could be the next simply because he was a college guy. No matter what the case the mere fact that we are talking about possibly getting an 18 year old lefty to HA next year has my baseball weenie going crazy

Hay Jamey,
I was wondering whan your book usually comes out?
by Kinslerhomer on Oct 28, 2008 11:31 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Newberg's book comes out in mid December
If you live around the Metroplex, the book release party is a big time.

Dec. 5-10
Somewhere in that range.
Derek Holland and Jeff Zimmerman are flying in for the party, which will be either Dec. 10 or Dec. 11.

Jeff Zimmerman!?
Is he gonna be playing long toss from 120 feet in the parking lot after the event?

Based on his
underwhelming comments on Main in the MWL chat, I didn’t figure that he would be too high on the pair (although he’s on board with the Martin Perez train), so that’s good to hear.

I like the Mitch Moreland answer
I see him as either a nice little trade addition (low B prospect at a strong organizational position), Probably will never see Arlington as a Ranger with Davis and Smoak, but he’s the type of guy who is nice to have in your organization.
And I like our organization’s pitching…

those 2 guys are gonna be good pitchers (now that Connor is gone)
and i’ve talked to holland. He seems like he is a good guy.
Also…dont forget Hurley

That is exciting stuff
4 combos possibly in the top 20? Wow! I agree with Callis, the depth of pitching is silly.

From today's Newberg Report
Jamey talked about a conversation he had with Calis as to a hypothetical if teams could have more than one duo considered:
JDN: If Perez and Main were also considered, would they have fallen in your
top 10 L/R duos?
JC: It’s funny, I was talking about that with someone else, too. Perez and
Main might have made the list, yes. You could also say that Kiker and
Beavan might make a top 15. And I love Robbie Ross, too.
JDN: You enough of a fan of Font or Neil Ramirez or Hurley or Boscan to pair
one of them up with Ross in that sort of hypothetical?
JC: I’d probably say Ramirez out of that group, obviously a lot more
projection with the younger guys. But yeah, you could say Texas could have
four combos if we went 20 deep.
JDN: Nice.
JC: Their pitching depth is pretty silly.
Since that is the bulk of the report from today, and since the bulk of it was needed for context I couldn’t really take excerpts, so go sign up for his report at www.newbergreport.com because it rules. Or go buy something off of Amazon.com through the link from his site, that’s something he asks us to do.

10% of gross Newberg Report revenue
That’s off the top, not net income. So you know he’s livin’ large.
What the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Um, helping, oh, it's got to be about job creation, too. Shoring up our economy, and getting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade. -- Sarah Palin
