Wednesday a.m.
Another snoozer this morning, Rangers news-wise.
I think things are currently in limbo until the Brewers give a definitive "yes" or "no" on allowing Texas to interview Mike Maddux.
T.R. Sullivan suggested in his mailbag earlier this week that once that occurs, Rick Peterson will be hired as pitching coach and Andy Hawkins will be named bullpen coach.

There is some good news
for the Rangers this morning..
Angels declined outfielder Garret Anderson’s $14 million option for 2009.
Glad to see him go..

Meh
I’d just as soon they spend $14 million on him to hang around and suck for 2009.

Because
I dont care how shitty they are playing at the time, some guys just have a certain comfort level when facing the Rangers, and I will be glad when they are gone.
vs. the Rangers in 08’
.342 – Garret Anderson
.385 – David Ortiz
.476 – Jim Thome

People cite batting average on this board, still?
Is that supposed to mean anything?

When it's that high, yah, it does.
Thome could hit .476 solely on singles, never walk once all season and strikeout in all his other AB’s and still be pretty much the greatest player ever if he hit .476.

Nah,
still wouldn’t be as good as Bonds in his heyday. That would be .476/.476/.476. Still doesn’t stack up to Bond’s Career .298/.444/.607 or his insane single season .328/.515/.863 or his .362/.609/.812.

Paying GA $14 M
I agree…I want the Angels’ payroll to be as ultra high as possible while all their guys grow older and ineffective, thereby having a bunch of albatross contracts on them.

It's funny
This is not aimed at you Adam, but more of a general statement…
As Rangers fans we have the general impression that Garrett Anderson is either over-rated and/or just plain sucks while Angels fans love him.
As Rangers fans we have the general impression that David Murphy is a really good and under-rated player.
And basically, they are the same player.

Perhaps but...
…at very different salaries. And one of them might still improve while the other is surely only going to decline (further).

True, I guess
FWIW though, Murphy is 10 years younger and from what I’ve heard, a much better defender than Anderson has ever been (although I of course never really watched Anderson during his prime).

He better not be a reliever.
I would only allow him to throw secondary pitches the entire year next year.

What are the Brewers waiting on?
You’d think they’d give a yay or nay fairly quickly.

I think they are waiting...
…until they hire a manager. I assume Melvin has a good idea which of the candidates feels strongly about keeping Maddux on board, and which doesn’t, but regardless, I don’t imagine they’ll make a final decision on this until they have a formal announcement on the manager.

You have to get a waiver from MLB just to announce it on an offday.. not allowed at all on gameday.

Weird
I checked the weather forecast for Philly on NOAA and it said “chance of sprinkes.” Who says sprinkles? Is this some easterner thing? Sprinklers sprinkle, cookies have sprinkles. At least it looks like there will some baseball tonight.
Nothing pithy here. Please move long.

Peterson and Maddux
I wish there was some way we could hire both – maybe hire Peterson now and reserve the bullpen coach’s spot for Maddux when (and if) he becomes available? Yeah… I don’t think Maddux would go for that either, unless his ties with Nolan persuade him to do so… anyone know just how tight he and Nolan are supposed to be?
