Poll -- Who was the Ranger MVP?
With not much news out there, I figure I'll throw up a poll this afternoon...

Kinsler, without a doubt
I’’d get into the statistics and why I think so, but I’m leaving right now – maybe I’ll do that later this afternoon if someone else hasn’t covered it by then (although I’m sure someone will).

By the way
Speaking of polls, shouldn’t this be the new frontpage sidebar poll?

I'd be very interested to see those stats.
Cause from where I’m sitting Hambone was better with the bat and with glove, plus he had over 100 more PA’s.

Did Cahill vote for Michael Young?
My ballot
1. Kinsler
2. Bradley
3. Hamilton
Hammy was the feel-good story of the year, and he’ll undoubtedly have more real AL MVP votes than anyone on the Rangers, but if you ask me, this offense was led by Ian and Milton.

Tossup
Milt and Ian. If I could have my vote back, I’d give it to Milt. Granted, injuries kept him out of the lineup, but the same can be said of Ian and Milt’s offensive year was huge.
Nothing pithy here. Please move long.

I remember seeing
something to the effect that the teams’ record with Bradley in the lineup was the best. For this reason, I voted for Bradley. I agree Hammy will get most if not all the Ranger MVP votes, but Boardgame stirred the sauce.
BTW, can you really have an MVP on a team with such giant suckitude?

Don't know how you can not vote for Hambone here.
What a beastly beast.

My qualm with Hamilton
is that he cooled off a lot coming down the stretch. He played more last year than he really ever had before, and I think it wore on him quite a bit.
Of course, Kinsler was out, and Milton wasn’t playing much. Which made for a painful August and September as Ranger fans.

Cooled off how exactly?
What is the stretch? August was probably his worst month, but September was arguably his best and July was also extremely awesome.
So yeah, he had a down August. I don’t think that means he cooled off down the stretch, let alone cooled off a lot, and it doesn’t count more than any other part of his season.
His OBP actually got higher in the second half, btw.

If you think about it
Ponson was pretty valuable…. His release led to the flux of Hurley/Harrision etc. getting shots at the #5 spot. Not to mention we found out the magnitude of Mendoza’s sucktitude. Valuable valuable stuff.
Fire Todd Dodge. Seriously. 45-17 to Troy. 0-12 is only four games away.

the magnitude of Mendoza’s sucktitude. Valuable valuable stuff.
It’s only valuable if everyone REMEMBERS Mendoza’s suckitude and stops using him.

Mendoza and Wright
Observe – 2008 stats:
Mendoza – 51 ERA+ 1.926 WHIP
Wright – 86 ERA+, 1.518 WHIP
And yet Washington kept throwing them both in there. Over and over.

I had to come back for this
I found this poll doing a Google blog search, and it’s hilarious that Sidney has almost as many votes as Milton Bradley.

Just remember
When deciding who the team MVP is you have to find the best player and then pick the guy hitting directly behind him the most often. So, Milton Bradley was the best hitter on the team hitting 4th regularly with your team MVP David Murphy hitting 5th the most often.

Kinsler
Would have been a MVP candidate if he finished the year.

Kins Kong is the man!
The boy can do it all……well maybe some improvement with the glove but besides that …he had an awesome year.

No Chris Shelton or Joselo Diaz?
In all seriousness, went with Bradley. A good case can be made for any of the Big Three.

Had to go with Kinsler
Its tough between Bradley, Kinsler, and Hamilton, but in the end I think Kinsler was the team’s most valuable player. And part of that is just a gut feeling, so I might feel differently after a good meal :D
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Omitted
The bullpen catcher. It wasn’t his fault that guys ready to go into games didn’t have as good a receiver to throw to, once in there.

It would have been a healthy Kinsler.
And Bradley isn’t far behind, but in the end it was Josh Hamilton.

Some quick counting stats on the main three candidates. . .
Hamilton: 57.1 vorp, -11 plus/minus
Bradley: 56.9 vorp, +3 plus/minus (in fewer than 170 innings)
Kinsler: 54.6 vorp, -15 plus/minus

Ian Kinsler was on his way
to having a superstar season before going down with injury. Easily the MVP.
