OT - Fielding Bible Awards
The Fielding Bible awards for the season are out today. They can be found here
Some interesting names on there. Franklin Gutierrez? The only repeat winner was the great Albert Pujols. That guy had a phenomenal year at the plate and the in the field and he did it with an injured shoulder and he still might lose MVP to Ryan Howard who struck out tons.
Of course there are no Rangers on the list. Maybe next year.

the preceding post was a great success.

How the Rangers did in the voting:
Young got 17 points out of all SSs, Kinsler got 6, Hamilton had 1 point, and Laird got 5 points. I guess Byrd didn’t play any OF position regularly enough to get in the voting because I’m sure he deserved at least a few points at any of the OF positions.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Phillips > Utley is ridiculous.
Even anecdotally that’s hard to believe. By the numbers it’s not even close.
I like how Neyer, Dewan and Posnanski have Utley first. Fan Scouting has him 10th.
That should tell you a lot.

Re: Franklin Gutierrez
+29 was better than any right fielder in baseball. By far.

Sean has him projected as one of the best defensive CENTER fielders in the game

Marco Scutaro...
A .700 OPS 3rd baseman with plussy-plus-plus defense who would only require a one year, sensibly priced FA deal.
Anyone interested?
Obviously his bat leaves tons to be desired, but I’m wondering what how many runs we’d save going from the merry band of butchers we ran out there this year to a guy who managed to be +15 even though he only played 36 starts there. (Scutaro was also +12 at SS in 53 starts there just in case we need a sub for Face during the season.)
Profiles a lot like Pedro Feliz, and we all saw how he worked out for Philly this season.
The more I think about it the more I think he might be an acceptable bridge to FFace moving for Elvis in ’10.

Oops, sorry.
Just looked it up and he’s signed for ’09 for a cool 1.1mil.
Though maybe he’d be a nice guy to target via trade if the Blue Jays come calling.
If defense is the new OBP, then Scutaro is the new Adam Dunn.

I'm interested.
I’m more interested in a shortstop and convincing Face to move, but, you know. . . whatever.
Yes, I’m interested.
And yes, I read the “not possible” post above this, just addressing the “what if.”

Could Orlando Cabrera be on the Rangers radar?

Don't forget that Rudy
has worked some miracles before. I’m not saying you bet on Scutaro turning his bat around, but it is a possibility here. Just think about hitters the opposite of how you think of pitchers coming here.

seeing Brandon Boggs among the fielding leaders in LF
makes me question once again why he never saw action in CF. His defense in CF was considered a plus at Frisco (granted, by Hindman), and if he can provide plus CF defense, his bat would probably play well enough for him to be a starter and an asset.
I don't hate everything. In fact, I think LSB is just groovy.

I'm guessing some scout/coach
in the organization puts him behind Byrd and Hamilton on the CF hierarchy and that’s pretty much that.
