That's nice.
Backe sucks. Wouldn’t be surpirised if the Rangers signed him to a minor league deal if the Astros release him over this.
Fire Todd Dodge. Seriously. 42-10 to FIU? Come on.

I'd be surprised and saddened.
He’s the worst, Jerry. The worst.

Minor league deal.
Like I said, he sucks. But it’s the Rangers and it wouldn’t surprise me if they took a flier on him.

The charge: Being the worst pitcher in baseball.
Brandon Backe just may be the worst pitcher in baseball consistently given start after start, and his league worst -2.90 WPA/LI topped or bottomed all others. In 166.2 innings, he posted a 6.05 ERA with a 1.67 WHIP. His FIP did not portend any type of luck, either, as it finished the season at 5.87, thanks to a rather pedestrian 1.65 K/BB. In raw numbers, 77 walks and 127 strikeouts might be acceptable for a rookie with massive upside, but that does not fit Backe’s bill. His .326 BABIP may have been a bit unlucky, but nowhere near the level of unluckiness that a couple other on this list experienced. Why this man still gets paid to pitch in the major leagues befuddles me.

I read somewhere that Mendoza was statistically the worst pitcher in baseball this year.

Worst single-season VORP since 2000
Mendoza’s in the conversation as having had one of the worst single-season pitching performances in the last 20 years.

That's gotta be like a per game average, right?
Cause he didn’t pitch enough innings to have sucked that hard overall.

Nope, season total
I guess he was just so bad that in the few times he was good, it wasn’t nearly enough to make up for the shittiness that is Mendoza.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Call me delusional but...
as an Astros fan, I’m clinging to the hope that he’ll bounce back next year and post 20 starts with an ERA of < or around 5.
Actually, I really don’t know why he sucked so hard this year. He was never going to be a #2, but I thought he’d be better than what he did this year (basically, mixed some solid starts with a couple of excellent starts, a crapload of bad starts and a few more awful starts)
Doubt he’ll be as bad next year…if there is one for him.

Delusion it up.
Just like when the Astros gave up the farm for Tejada. Astros are setting themselves up for a long, painful decline to Rangersville.

I broke stuff
when we traded for Tejada. I kept believing that it was something along the lines of my worst nightmare. True, our farm system before we made the trade was already pretty bad and as it turned out, two guys tore labrums, one AA minor leaguer sucked, one pitcher was sorta-kinda-okay in the O’s bullpen and the hitter turned out to have a better OPS than Tejada and that Bourn guy we traded for, so it wasn’t that ba…right, it was pretty crap, so my fears were realized.
Silver lining? IN maybe four years, we’ll have an awesomely high draft pick.

Really, a "star"?
Best part is that under most emailed stories tab it says, “Baseball star among arrested.” A “star”? Backe? Ummm would that be like saying Kam Loe is a star?

Backe - Tommy John Surgery
He maybe better next year. Remember he’s only one year away from having Tommy John surgery.
