Jeff Wilson on today's Instructs game

Jeff Wilson has a blog post up at the S-T about today's Instructional League game, focusing on Neftali Feliz, who threw 2 scoreless innings...

Wilson says Feliz is working on his fastball command and wants to break camp with the Rangers in 2009...

Some other notes, as well, to check out...

oops

don’t ask. I was trying to give the score of Surprise vs. Peo Javelinas and somehow when i posted it double posted then I tried to explain by apparently repeating myself

Glad to hear

That Feliz is setting his sights high. Nothing wrong with that. As far as his english skills. Whatever. If he pitches in Arlington like he has been in the minors I will learn spanish or swahili or whatever. Mid 90s and up fastball is all the language skills needed.

Seasmurf,

I am not sure if you are sincere or schtick, but on Tracy, I think this is a very important opportunity for him to prove he is a legitimate prospect. He performed well when he arrived in Frisco this past season after what amounted to two productive (though underwhelming) seasons in the system. He is the son of former big league manager Jim Tracy, and that, along with three very productive years at and behind the plate at Pepperdine brought on the expectations that he would move fast and that his bat would/should carry him. Defensively, he is one of those guys who can play many places, including at catcher, 1B, and the corner OF spots, but he will never be a defensive stand out.

In sum, for him to make it, he needs his bat to carry him, and so far, it hasn’t done that.

Wilson of the FWST

It sure is odd how the FWST has no relationship whatsoever with the NMLR/LSB set and yet the DMN goes out it’s way speak to this fervent fanbase.

Why does FWST

need to reach out to those groups when they have Grandpa Urine and Jen Jen to move their fine product.

The FWST

I sat down with Andro and Wilson when I was up at Fort Worth at the end of the year. They seem like good guys. You’ve just had a lot of turnover with the beatwriters over there the last couple of years, which means the new people have to come in and start from scratch.

Anyone who

hasn’t read the Newberg report today needs to go check their inbox. Best stuff I’ve read from him.

the Galloway quote

I didn’t know he fell that way, and that strongly.

Yep

He killed Jimmy Johnson (and Jerry Jones) for the first couple of years they were in Dallas.

And he wasn’t the only one.

I remember, at the end of the 1989 season, Ed Werder doing an evaluation of the Cowboys’ 1989 draft…he said Aikman was the obvious #1 pick, but didn’t win a game and could well be ruined after getting hammered all season. The second rounder was wasted because it was used on a fullback who can’t carry the ball, the third rounder was a bust because it was used on a guy who was too small to play the o-line in the NFL, and the 4th rounder didn’t look much better because it was used on a linebacker they were trying to convert to DE, even though he was probably to small to play there.

In retrospect, those three picks — Johnston, Stepnoski, and Tolbert — were pretty good.

He's such a shill.

+1

I like the throwdown that’s emerging here. It will be interesting to see if Galloway feels Newberg’s fame warrants a response.

Go Rangers!

Galloway

I’ve been made aware that Randy read the report, and I’ve seen an exchange he had with a reader this morning. Entertaining, but not sure it would be right for me to post it here.
